Nobody has ever been more wrong than Phil Mickelson saying Scottie Scheffler wouldn’t win in 2025

Remember earlier this year when Phil Mickelson casually dropped the worst golf take in human history? He called it a “hot take” which these days, basically means “I know this is dumb but I’m tweeting it anyway” and said Scottie Scheffler wouldn’t win a single tournament in 2025.

Yeah… about that, Phil.

Since that cursed post hit the timeline, Scottie has won four times, including TWO MAJORS, and just captured his first British Open in dominant fashion.

He torched Royal Portrush to go 17-under, walked it in by four strokes, and scooped up the Claret Jug, his baby Bennett, and whatever was left of Phil’s credibility.

Scottie now has four majors: The Masters, The PGA Championship, and now The Open. Only thing left? The U.S. Open. His next shot there will be at Shinnecock Hills, June 18–21, 2026 which just so happens to be his 30th birthday.

Phil Mickelson’s ‘Hot Take’ was colder than Antarctica in January

Golf is hard. Predicting wins is harder. Betting against Scottie Scheffler, a walking top-10 with a surgically efficient game and a nuclear short game, is a different level of stupidity.

What made things even worse for Phil, is that his tweet came in response to him anointing Joaquin Niemann as the true world No. 1, which is another hilarious subplot. For the uninformed, Niemann has the occasional top-5 but then pulls the disappearing act at majors.

Meanwhile, Scottie wins tournaments while changing diapers.

That’s the duality of Scheffler. Off the course, he’s a laid-back dadwho wants to hang with his kid. On the course, he’s an absolute killer. No reason for fireworks. Scottie Scheffler just strangles fields with precision and poise, turning Sunday into a snooze-fest for everyone chasing.

Most bad takes disappear into the content abyss. This one gets worse by the week. Scottie is the undisputed best golfer on the planet, possibly the most dominant athlete in the world right now, and it’s not close.

If you’re going to throw out predictions, maybe don’t bet against the guy who literally doesn’t miss. Congrats on the Claret Jug, Scottie. Maybe this time celebrate for more than three minutes because you’ve earned it.
