WATCH: DeVonta Smith gives hilarious response to Love Island question

Look, I’ve been shamelessly locked into the last two seasons of Love Island USA. While I’m not ready to stand ten toes down in defense of the show, I’m also not going to sit here and act like DeVonta Smith didn’t make a damn good point.

During his charity softball game, Smitty was asked about Love Island and didn’t hold back, calling it a dumbass show that he was being forced to watch because his wife made him.

That’s something I know someone here at TLL that it specifically relates to, ain’t that right, chief? Not even two months ago, we wrote a blog titled DeVonta Smith is officially hooked on Love Island thanks to his wife.

At the time, it looked like Smitty had fully bought into the chaos that is Love Island USA. He was tweeting about it. He was making references. He was in deep and honestly we didn’t blame him for it.

This kind of stuff happens fast. You’re just trying to chill with your girl, throw on something light to wind down… then boom you’re debating who’s more toxic between Huda and Jeremiah, Googling fan theories, and waiting until 9 p.m. like it’s Monday Night Football.

The aftermath however, tends to bring people back to earth. Guys are thinking clearly again and are questioning what they just watched and why did they dedicate, 5-6 days a week to such a stupid television show.

Love Island Is Trash… and That’s What Makes It Elite

Love Island is dumb. It’s the pinnacle of pointless television. The editing is chaotic, the contestants are delusional, and most of the conversations sound like they were written by a bot trained on Instagram captions.

But that’s the point. That’s what makes it so addicting. It’s so bad that it loops around and becomes good. We hate-watch it. We love to hate it. We hate that we love it.

Just for the record, I really didn’t think that this season doesn’t even compare to last year. Hudda alone made me want to throw my remote at the wall. The fact that people are defending her on social media is insane. I’ve never seen someone be both a main character and the villain of the season with such little self-awareness.

It’s Football Season. Lock In.

All jokes aside, the timing here is perfect. Eagles training camp starts tomorrow, and DeVonta Smith doesn’t have time for late-night Love Island recaps anymore. It’s time to gear up for our quest to become back-to-back Super Bowl Champions.
