Cristopher Sánchez shoves, Bryce Harper steals home and the Phillies beat the Sox 4-1

Cristopher Sanchez Masterclass – If you’re Carlos Narváez, just fake an injury and sit the rest of this series out. It’s been that kind of week for Boston’s backup catcher.

The Phillies rolled past the Red Sox Tuesday night behind a complete-game gem from Cristopher Sánchez, who was absolutely filthy in a 4-1 win at Citizens Bank Park.

Cristopher Sanchez gave up just four hits and struck out 12 on 106 pitches. It’s his third career complete game and maybe his best performance yet in a dominant season that just keeps getting better.

Cristopher Sanchez Complete Game:

Sánchez opened the game by mowing down the first nine Red Sox hitters. The only damage came on a solo homer from Rob Refsnyder in the fourth, which was also Boston’s only extra-base hit of the night.

After that there was absolutely nothing but soft contact and bad body language from the Red Sox dugout. Sánchez racked up 13 groundball outs and made one of the hottest teams in baseball look like they were trying to hit a wiffle ball.

Now, let’s talk about Bryce Harper.

One night after Sosa walked it off on catcher’s interference, Harper decided to steal home. It worked he beat the throw clean. Because Carlos Narváez stepped across home plate early, the umps called interference again, and the run was awarded via balk.

Bryce Harper doesn’t get credit for the steal, but the run counts, and everyone watching is still picking their jaws up off the floor. You can click the link to watch below.

That’s two games in a row the Phillies scored the winning run thanks to catcher’s interference… and both times it was Narváez behind the plate. You truly can’t script it.

Kepler and Schwarber Join the Party

Max Kepler and Kyle Schwarber made sure Sánchez had some early run support. Kepler took Richard Fitts deep in the second inning, and Schwarber followed with his 33rd bomb of the season. The Phillies jumped out to a 4-0 lead and coasted from there.

Fitts got tagged for six hits and four earned runs over 3.1 innings. Since the All-Star break, the Red Sox have dropped four of five, and the Narváez Experience isn’t helping.

Up Next for the Phillies

The Phillies (58-43) will try to break out the brooms on Wednesday night with Jesús Luzardo on the mound against Lucas Giolito. All eyes will still be on the plate… just to see what weird thing happens next.
