Andrew Painter flashes the arsenal in latest Lehigh Valley start
Andrew Painter’s climb back to the big leagues continues, and on Wednesday night, he showed why the Phillies are still betting big on his future.
The 21-year-old righty tossed six solid innings for Triple-A, allowing just one hit — a solo shot to rehabbing Orioles slugger Ryan Mountcastle, across 76 pitches.
Andrew Painter’s final line: 6 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.
Not dominant, but efficient and effective.
Andrew Painter was on point tonight for Lehigh Valley
The most impressive part was that Painter punched out four batters using four different pitches — cutter, four-seamer, slider, and curveball. That’s the kind of sequencing and command you want to see from a frontline starter in the making.
He threw 44 strikes out of 76 pitches and induced 8 groundouts to just 2 flyouts, keeping the ball down and limiting damage. Painter wasn’t lights-out, but he was composed, sharp, and showed real signs of growth.
The only blemish was the homer to Mountcastle, who’s not exactly your average Triple-A bat. That’s a big leaguer doing big leaguer things.
Painter remains the Phillies’ top prospect and tonight, he was back on track, delivering a very strong case for an August look. If he keeps stacking outings like this, especially with that deep arsenal, it won’t be long until he’s making noise in South Philly.
One hit. Four pitches. Six innings. Keep going, kid.
