Report: Eagles are exploring ‘possibility of a brand new stadium’ in the near future

The Eagles sent the following email to season ticket holders today:

“To help guide this vision, we’re exploring potential updates to Lincoln Financial Field — including both renovation options and the possibility of a brand new stadium in the region.”

Lurie and the Eagles want a dome

It’s been rumored for some time now that Jeffrey Lurie and his Eagles may build a new indoor stadium in the near future. The Linc is currently under lease until 2032, which gives them eight more years to plan a new stadium if they decide to go that route. Typically, NFL stadium construction takes around 2-3 years, give or take. So I’d have to assume we’ll know if the Eagles are switching to a dome within the next four years — giving them plenty of time to figure out the location and all that kind of stuff.

Lurie is also on record saying he wants to host a Super Bowl in Philly. Which, let’s be honest, would be awesome. The only way that becomes a reality is with a dome.

As much as I love having an outdoor stadium and letting the elements play a factor during the postseason, I’m fully on board with getting a dome. Most people who are against it probably haven’t actually been to a football game in a dome before. It’s electric. And above all else, it’s loud. Much louder than The Linc.

While you’d lose that home field advantage by taking away the possibility of it raining/snowing, you gain it back tenfold with the noise factor. It truly is a night and day difference.

We won’t know if this is going to happen for a while yet, but this email from the Eagles clearly shows they’re thinking about it.
