WATCH: A Savannah Banana player just landed himself on the IL after a failed backflip attempt on CNN

Ouch. One of the Savannah Bananas players went on CNN, did a backflip into a banana split, and likely landed himself on the Injured List.

I don’t know what kind of worker’s comp claim you file for a mid-flip groin detachment on national television, but the Banana in question might want to get that paperwork started.

Side Note: Does anyone else sing that Gwen Stefani song when trying to spell banana? Just me? Alright. Whatever.

Honestly, much like attempting to spell the word itself, I don’t really get the Savannah Bananas.

It’s not for me, mate and that’s totally fine.

I guess they are this generations version of the Harlem Globetrotters? Whatever. I can acknowledge they’re selling out football stadiums and doing better engagement than 75% of Major League Baseball, so it’s blatantly obvious they’re a viral marketing machine.

Still, I personally don’t need a baseball game where someone’s hitting a home run while on fire, doing the worm past third base, and finishing it off with a saxophone solo. If that’s your cup of tea then by all means, drink it.

The product has been thriving, but we finally saw a chink in the armor today on the set of CNN, with a player face-planting on a failed backflip to banana split attempt, live on air.

The CNN anchor loved every second of it. You’d think she just watched a Shane Gillis comedy special. There was zero concern on her face whatsoever. She might’ve bought season tickets right then and there.

The co-anchor looked slightly more alarmed and was definitely trying to focus on the camera, rather than the Banana who was looking awfully embarrassed on his knees and slightly concussed.

It’s easy to wonder if this was all staged, especially in the wake of that Cleveland Browns camera guy belly-flopping into Lake Erie for clicks but I’m giving this one the benefit of the doubt.

The Bananas don’t need to fake anything. They’re already doing numbies, as the kids say. This felt more like a guy getting caught up in the moment and his face is paying the price. Can’t knock the hustle. Dude went on national TV and gave it his all for the brand. That’s more than you can say about half of professional sports right now.
