Jordan Davis dropped 26 pounds and is looking like a SNACK heading into training camp
Jordan Davis showed up to training camp on Thursday looking leaner, quicker, and smiling like a guy who knows he’s about to prove some people wrong.
The 6’6” defensive tackle told 94.1 WIP Devan Kaney that he dropped 26 pounds this offseason and now weighs in at 330. That’s the lightest he’s been since his sophomore year at Georgia, and it might be the difference between being a rotational run stuffer and finally turning into a full-time beast on the Eagles’ defensive line.
“I just feel a lot more in tune with my body,” Davis said. “I definitely feel more comfortable at this weight than I did in the past with pass rushing.”
He even joked about taking his shirt off at the podium to show the media what he’s working with. Confidence through the roof. Gotta love it.
Jordan Davis was looking like a SNACK heading into training camp
For the last two years, Jordan Davis has done what he was drafted to do by clogging up an opponents run game up the middle. The only issue was that the Eagles didn’t trade up in the first round to get a guy who only plays 40 percent of the snaps.
Davis hasn’t really been much of a factor on passing downs and with only 3.5 sacks over 47 career games, it was perfectly fair to question the upside that we all witnessed when he was at Georgia would ever arrive in South Philly.
Jordan Davis is down 26 pounds and fans are saying this might be the year
The Eagles defense would benefit greatly for the true arrival of Jordan Davis. Milton Williams is gone. Jalen Carter will eat up all the double teams in the trenches and now there are plenty of snaps up for grabs.
Vic Fangio spoke to the media yesterday and already said that those snaps will be distributed to Davis, Moro Ojomo, and rookie Ty Robinson, but all things considered, the moment has arrived for Jordan Davis to step up and lock-in that second DT spot next to the madman, Jalen Carter.
All Jordan Davis has to do is become a threat in the pass rush and he immediately goes from a role player to a legitimate problem. That presser above sounds and looks like a guy who’s fully ready to do that.
The Great Awakening for Jordan Davis
Jordan Davis said things “clicked” when he turned 25 in January and that life wasn’t just about football anymore but rather a focus on getting in the best shape for his future, health, and also the Philadelphia Eagles.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day,” Davis said. “This has been a long time coming. Not even just for football, but just for life. I wanted to make these changes because it’s absolutely necessary.”
Davis said he doesn’t want to be the guy who comes off the field every time it’s second-and-long. He’s tired of being a one-trick pony. The weight loss, the work, the mindset—everything feels different this time around.
Jordan Davis looks like a snack and sounds ready.
The Eagles need someone to step up next to Jalen Carter, and Davis has the inside track if he can finally make the leap. The weight loss is just the start. The Eagles are counting on the rest to follow.
Time to find out if the former first-rounder is more than just a run stopper. Jordan Davis’ breakout season might finally be loading.
