Bryce Harper Sack Tap Salute Weston Wilson

WATCH: Bryce Harper and Weston Wilson debut the Sack Tap Salute in the dugout

It’s easy to understand how Bryce Harper and Weston Wilson’s viral moment got lost in the shuffle last night at Citizens Bank Park.

Jhoan Durán made his debut in red pinstripes last night and gave Phillies fans everything they could’ve hoped for and then some.

Our new closer recorded three outs on four total pitches, backed by a WrestleMania-worthy entrance that had Citizens Bank Park rocking like it was Game 7 of the NLCS.

Fire on the video boards. Lights dimmed. The Undertaker gong hit. Then came “The Durantula.” Four pitches, three outs, game over. Final: Phillies 5, Tigers 4.

THE DURANTULA: Phillies rally late, Jhoan Duran slams the door shut in debut to beat the Tigers 5-4

Durán was filth on the mound. His first save with the Phillies took less time than his entrance. That still didn’t live up to the viral moment from the game courtesy of Bryce Harper and Weston Wilson in the dugout.

Cameras caught Bryce Harper and Weston Wilson sharing a… gentlemen’s handshake, if you will. Just a quick reach-down, check-the-oil style cup of the crown jewels.

The Sack Tap Salute

Everyone relax.

Plus, we finally found something that Weston Wilson is good at. If he’s bringing those types of vibes and new cellys to the dugout, he very well could be this year’s version of Garrett Stubbs by September.

Note: I literally have no idea how Weston Wilson is still on this team. He’s starting today in left field. Unbelievable.

Anyways, shoutout to the Sack Tap Salute. It wasn’t aggressive. It wasn’t weird. It was just two teammates having a moment. Still, I’ll take it if it means the Phillies are going to comeback to beat a very good baseball team every night.

Bryce Harper has never been shy about setting the tone. Obviously. This however, is a new frontier in clubhouse chemistry. If you can’t give your teammate a subtle little nut cradle after a big win, are you even trying to win a ring?

That’s not sus. That’s bonds forged in fire.

Jhoan Durán is the real deal. His stuff is absurd. He gives the bullpen stability it’s been desperately missing. Add in guys like Strahm, Kerkering, and David Robertson, and suddenly this team has real late-inning options.

Championship runs aren’t just built on arms.

They’re built on chemistry. Brotherhood. Ridiculous traditions. If this Bryce Harper-Weston Weston “Sack Tap Salute” becomes a thing, we’re not questioning it.

So by all means, go right ahead, fellas.

It gives Weston Wilson something to do while the rest of the lineup is smack some dingers and Sack Tap saluting afterwards.

Before today’s game, give your bros a reminder that you love them, sack-first. They’ll thank you after Zack Wheeler handles business today on the mound.
