Joel Embiid Knee Surgery

Shocker: Joel Embiid’s knee still considered a ‘genuine concern’ as the 76ers inch closer to training camp

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, please. According to new reports, Joel Embiid’s knee is still a genuine concern ‘around the NBA’ as the 76ers inch closer towards training camp.

Brett Siegel of Clutch Points dropped this ‘bombshell’ update saying that Joel Embiid’s knee, the same one he’s had two surgeries on over the past 14 months, is still concerning. Siegel says that ‘word is bad’ around the league, while the Sixers continue to downplay the severity.

Brett Siegel ‘updates‘ on Joel Embiid and Paul George

You don’t say…?!

Okay so obviously I’m being sarcastic. Everyone in Philadelphia knows that Joel Embiid’s knee is pretty much fucked and the concern about it has been here for what… three or four years at this point?

Side Note: I’m not even touching the Paul George update. That has been a lost cause for a while now. I don’t expect him to be healthy. Ever.

As for Embiid, I was hesitant about even getting this up on the website because the entire article isn’t much of an update at all.

Not to mention, Embiid pretty much confirmed how fucked his knee was in that feature-article on ESPN a few weeks ago. The Sixers keep saying that he’s on track to be ready for training camp while Embiid is saying there’s still no clear timetable for him to return to action.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

If anything, I’m just pissed at Daryl Morey again for giving us bullshit updates on Embiid when all we ever ask for as Sixers fans is transparency.

If Joel Embiid isn’t coming back for months, then how does Morey keep his job after it would be proven that he was straight-up lying to this fanbase all Summer?

We’ll see…

Joel Embiid’s Knee Troubles Have Been Here for Years…

Embiid’s knee troubles have been dragging on since he tore his left meniscus again in February 2024. He had surgery, returned later that year, even played for Team USA at the Paris Olympics, and for a moment it looked like the worst was behind him.

As we all know, 2024-25 told a completely different story. Embiid only appeared in 19 games, was playing like he was a 90-year old man, could barely move, and definitely couldn’t control the pain or swelling.

That forced the Sixers to shut him down in February, the Sixers faded into irrelevancy and ended up being the Tank Commanders that we all witnessed during The Process years.

There was buzz earlier this summer that he could try the “Kobe Bryant treatment” — a PRP procedure in Europe, to give the knee a boost. I haven’t seen any reports confirming that happened and even if it did, it clearly hasn’t produced any magic yet.

Obviously, the contract extension looks really bad right now

With Embiid likely missing even more time this year, everyone will bring up the poor decision in giving him a contract extension. The 76ers still owe Embiid a whopping $187.6 million over the next three seasons.

The ‘genuine concern’ has been here. We’re now entering a worse-case scenario and even then, we already knew that. The Sixers’ championship window has always been tied to Embiid’s health. Right now, it’s looking like that window is cracked open at best — and the breeze isn’t great.
