Phillies Notes: Bohm running, Nola nearing return, and Alvarado back in Philly
The Phillies are getting healthy at the right time, and for a team with October on its mind, that’s exactly what you want to hear. Before Sunday night’s win over the Tigers, Rob Thomson had updates on a few key names.

Phillies Notes:
Alec Bohm was out on the field running the bases for the first time since fracturing a rib on July 18 after taking a Yu Darvish fastball to the side. He’s already hitting in the cage, and Thomson expects him to be taking outdoor BP in the next few days. A rehab stint is coming before he’s activated, but Bohm “feels good” and is getting close.
Aaron Nola is fresh off a three-inning, scoreless rehab outing at Lehigh Valley where he allowed three hits, struck out three, and looked sharp.
The working assumption is that once Nola returns, Taijuan Walker heads back to the bullpen, but Thomson didn’t entirely close the door on experimenting with a six-man rotation. With a brutal stretch of games that features 29 games in August with only two off days, then 16 of the first 17 in September, it’s worth keeping an eye on.
Jose Alvarado, who’s been serving an 80-game suspension since May and is ineligible for the postseason, will be back in Philadelphia on Monday and at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday. He’s been throwing in Venezuela and keeping in touch with the team.
All that is perfectly fine. I just hope that the Phillies utilize Alvarado until his arm falls off in the regular season. It shouldn’t be forgotten how badly he screwed this team by getting suspended. I will personally never forgive him.
David Robertson pitched Friday and Sunday in Triple-A, allowing a few hits (and a three-run homer on Sunday) but showing encouraging velocity, touching 94 mph. Thomson says the big test now is how Robertson’s arm responds after outings, and so far, the recovery has been good. Expect another inning from him in a couple of days.
Overall, Good Stuff on the Phillies Front
Bohm’s return gives the Phillies another everyday bat, Nola’s return solidifies the rotation, and even with Alvarado’s suspension, the bullpen continues to stack up arms for a deep postseason run.
