Portland Pickles Fan Home Run

WATCH: Fan gets at-bat during Portland Pickles game, hits a home run, earns a one-day contract

Portland Pickles – We’ve all been there, sitting in the stands, probably a few beers deep, watching some dude in a wood-bat summer league swing through meatballs while thinking there’s no possible way that you wouldn’t take him yard.

Saturday night in Portland, Oregon, a fan actually did it.

The Portland Pickles were hosting their fan appreciation night at Walker Stadium in a matchup against their in-house rivals, the Portland Gherkins (also very real).

As part of the festivities, one “lucky” fan named Dixie was randomly picked to step into the box for a legit at-bat. Jersey didn’t match, batting stance looked like it was put together on the fly, but Dixie worked a walk, ripped off a smooth slide into second, and came around to score.

That should’ve been the end of the story. It was a nice little memory to tell your buddies about it over a beer, but apparently, Dixie was just getting started.

Later in the game, the Portland Pickles handed him another AB.

Full count, payoff pitch, and Dixie absolutely launched one to deep left-center for a two-run shot in the eighth. Crowd goes nuts, team mobbed him at the plate, and he even got the full ice bath treatment afterward.

Sure, the game didn’t count in the standings. It was basically the Pickles “All-Stars” vs. the Gherkins in an exhibition but it’s still the stuff of beer-league legend. You show up as a fan, you leave as the guy who homered in a pro-style stadium under the lights.

Some people buy merch at fan appreciation night. Dixie just bought himself a spot in Portland Pickles history and earned himself a one-day contract in the process.
