The Sixers finally bring back the Allen Iverson-era black uniforms in a last ditch effort to keep the fanbase together
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. It’s been nothing short of a nightmare summer for the Sixers.
Joel Embiid basically has one leg and no timetable for return. Daryl Morey takes the podium and talks down to the media and fanbase while saying nothing but lies. Paul George still has a max contract and is still injured.
You name it. It’s all bad. Again.
That being said, I guess we can finally say something good about the organization because they are bringing back the black Allen Iverson-era uniforms this season.
You know the ones. Black base, Sixers script across the chest, dripping in 2001 nostalgia. The jerseys we all begged for while they trotted out dull rebrands and half-hearted City Editions. Now the deed is done. The Iverson-era is back in South Philly and honestly, the organization really didn’t have any other choice.
Sixers officially bring back Iverson-era black uniforms.
The Last Lifeline Left for the Sixers
With what’s left of the fanbase teetering between rage and complete apathy, the Sixers needed something, anything to distract from the glaring issues this team and organization has heading into the 2025 NBA season.
I will say it again.
Joel Embiid may never play basketball again. Paul George just had offseason surgery and is currently on one of the worst max contracts in NBA history.
Mix in the fact that Daryl Morey is still in charge of this team along with Josh Harris, and we’re all on a basketball death march down Broad Street two months before the season even begins.
But hey, at least we can slap those black jerseys on, right?
We can all pretend for a second that it’s 2001 again when the Wells Fargo Center Xfinity Mobile Arena (then the First Union Center) was rocking, the city was electric, and we didn’t wake up every morning wondering if our superstar’s knee was about to fall off.
It’s not a banner. It’s not a Finals run. It’s not even a competent rebuild. It’s something, though, and right now something is better than nothing.
