Walker shoves, Brandon Marsh and Max Kepler go yard as Phillies blank Orioles 5-0
The Phillies shut down the slumping Orioles 5-0 behind six strong innings from Taijuan Walker and some long-ball help from Brandon Marsh and Max Kepler. That’s three straight wins for the Fightins, who keep cruising atop the NL East.
Brandon Marsh opened the scoring in the second with an RBI double and later added a solo shot in the eighth, his third homer in the last seven games after going nearly three weeks without one.
Max Kepler, much to the dismay of Phillies fans, made his presence felt too, smoking a two-run homer in the second and scoring again on a Bryson Stott RBI triple in the fourth.
Max Kepler 2-Run HR
Shoutout Max Kepler
No, I don’t feel “sorry” for Max Kepler. He’s a professional baseball player and hasn’t lived up to the expectations of this fanbase and organization. I just appreciate a guy that’s going to continue to battle.
He’s probably heading to a full time bench role sooner than later but as long as he’s grinding to make the most of any opportunity, I can respect that.
Walker, looking more like his 2023 self, gave the Phillies six shutout innings, scattering four hits with four strikeouts and zero walks. It was Walker’s best outing in over a month and a much-needed boost for the back end of the rotation.
Baltimore didn’t have much fight, mustering just six hits and failing to hit a home run for the first time in eight games against Philly. Jordan Westburg had two hits, but the rest of the lineup was quiet and the Orioles are now 1-5 over their last six games.
Casty Rakes In The Shadows…
Nick Castellanos quietly extended his hitting streak to six games and scored for the seventh straight night. Say what you want, but the guy is producing right now.
Shoutout Bryson Stott
Next up for the Phillies:
The series wraps up Wednesday night with a marquee lefty matchup with Ranger Suárez (8-4, 2.68 ERA) getting the nod for the Phils against Orioles ace Trevor Rogers (4-2, 1.44 ERA).
The Phillies now lead the New York Mets by 2.5 Games in the NL East. Let’s break out those brooms today in South Philly.
