Schwarber blasts No. 41, Brandon Marsh goes crazy as Phillies crush Rangers 9-1

The Phillies rolled into Texas and immediately ended a decade of frustration in Arlington like it was nothing. Kyle Schwarber went yard in the first, Brandon Marsh turned into Tony Gwynn with a side of power, and Trea Turner drove in five as The Fightins stomped the Rangers 9-1 to kick off their nine-game road trip.

Kyle Schwarber set the tone with a 413-foot laser that clanged off the right-field foul pole for his 41st of the year, putting him just two behind Cal Raleigh for the MLB lead.

Marsh broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth with a line-drive homer down the right-field line, then piled on with three more hits for good measure. Turner waited until the ninth to drop a three-run bomb and twist the knife.

Cristopher Sánchez quietly shoved again, giving up just one run over six innings to match his career-high 11th win. His changeup is still ruining hitters’ lives — five of his six strikeouts came on it, pushing his MLB-leading total with the pitch to 97.

The win snapped a brutal 10-game losing streak in Texas that dated back to 2014. The last time the Phillies had won here, Globe Life Field wasn’t even built yet, and the Rangers’ current ballpark was still a parking lot dream.

Up Next for the Phillies:

Jesús Luzardo gets the ball Saturday night against Jacob deGrom. If Luzardo’s on and deGrom’s recent struggles continue, Philly could be looking at a series win before Sunday even rolls around.
