Marcus Morris clears Vegas casino debt, fraud charges dropped
Marcus Morris Sr. is officially off the legal hook after settling up with the casinos that accused him of fraud. According to court docs out of Las Vegas, Morris paid back what he a combined $265,000 to two casinos, leading prosecutors to dismiss the charges entirely.
The former Sixer and 13-year NBA vet was arrested in Florida back in late July on a felony warrant tied to those bounced checks. Authorities alleged Morris knowingly wrote bad checks to cover his gambling markers, but his camp pushed back hard.
His agent called the accusations false, and Morris himself took to social media to say it was nothing more than a standard casino marker situation gone sideways. He also claimed he wasn’t given food or water for nearly two days while in jail.
TMZ Sports on Marcus Morris arrest:
“According to court documents we obtained, the NBA player allegedly got $115,000 from the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino via bad checks in May 2024 … and never paid it back when the checks bounced. Officials state around a month later, in June 2024, he performed a similar scam at the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel and Casino … netting $150,000 through checks he knew wouldn’t cash.”
The resolution is no trial and no conviction.
Morris, now 35, carved out a long NBA career after starring at Kansas, making stops in Houston, Phoenix, Detroit, Boston, New York, L.A., his hometown Philly, and Cleveland, averaging 12 points and 4.4 boards along the way while banking over $100 million in career salary.
Marcus Morris’ last run came with the Cavs in 2024, and he’s since shifted to a TV role that hasn’t been without controversy. Looks like he’s cleared his name, at least in the legal sense, but Vegas clearly still keeps the receipts.
