Kyle Schwarber, Phillies keep rolling with 4-1 comeback over Reds
Kyle Schwarber might as well have squatters’ rights at Great American Ball Park at this point. Born just up the road in Middletown, Ohio, Schwarber launched his 13th career homer in Cincinnati and his NL-leading 42nd of the season to cap off a four-run eighth inning as the Phillies rallied past the Reds, 4-1, on Monday night.
For seven innings, this game was shaping up to be one of those frustrating, wasted pitching performances. Reds starter Andrew Abbott was carving up the Phillies, allowing just three hits and carrying a 1-0 lead into the eighth.
With two outs, The Fightins finally arrived. Weston Wilson, who I have never said a bad word about, tied the game up with an RBI double. Trea Turner followed with a go-ahead RBI of his own, and then Kyle Schwarber stepped in and nuked a two-run shot off Tony Santillan.
Ballgame.
Weston Wilson Game-Tying RBI Double
Trea Turner Go-Ahead RBI Triple
Kyle Schwarber 42nd Home Run of the Year
Cyjuan Walker…?
The Reds’ lone run came early when TJ Friedl doubled and scored on a Gavin Lux single in the first. Taijuan Walker settled in after that, tossing six innings of one-run ball. Jordan Romano got the win in relief, and Orion Kerkering locked it down in the ninth for his third save.
Phillies-Reds Game Notes
Kyle Schwarber is tied with Shohei Ohtani for the NL home run lead and is sitting at 97 RBI on the season. Seattle’s Cal Raleigh still leads MLB with 45, but Schwarber’s making this thing interesting.
The win pushes the Phillies’ streak to four and bumps their NL East lead over the idle Mets to six games.

Next up: Ranger Suárez (8-5, 2.94 ERA) gets the ball Tuesday night against Reds righty Brady Singer (9-9, 5.43 ERA) as the Phils look to keep the good vibes rolling in Cincy.
