Jhoan Duran Updated Spider Graphic

Spider Fix: Phillies finally update Jhoan Duran’s spider graphic to match his nickname

While the majority of Phillies fans were going nuts witnessing Jhoan Duran’s entrance for the first time at Citizens Bank Park, there was a strong contingent that (annoyingly) couldn’t get over the fact that the spider used in the graphic wasn’t a tarantula which was a problem because of Duran’s nickname, The Durantula.

When Jhoan Duran ran out to his “Durantula” entrance earlier this year, the video board showed… not a tarantula. It looked more like a black widow, complete with a shiny abdomen and no hair. Not exactly the hairy-legged monster you’d expect when your nickname is Durantula.

Happy to report that the graphic has been updated. The Phillies updated the graphics and rolled out an actual tarantula crawling across the board. Hairy legs, chunky body, the whole deal.

Phillies give Jhoan Duran a proper spider

That’s some proper arachnology, brother.

Jhoan Duran is 6-4 with an ERA of 1.83, 57 strikeouts and 21 saves in 55 appearances this season. Since being acquired by the Phillies, Duran has been lights out with an ERA of 0.00, 4 strikeouts and 5 saves in 6 appearances.

Let’s all hope that the updated spider will continue to work in his favor. I hate to even say it, but we don’t need a Spider Curse hitting this team given all of the other issues we are currently battling in the Dog Days.

Zack Wheeler just had a blood clot removed. Aaron Nola got smoked in the third inning the other day. People aren’t exactly throwing confetti over the state of the rotation right now.

Screw it, right? At least the spiders are accurate. When you’re bummed out about The Fightins, sometimes you just have to take your wins wherever you can find them.
