Daniel Day-Lewis ANEMONE Trailer New Movie

WATCH: Daniel Day-Lewis ends retirement, returns to the big screen this fall with ANEMONE

Daniel Day-Lewis said he was done after Phantom Thread in 2017. Retired. Curtains. No more method-acting madness.

For film fans, it felt like a gut punch. The greatest actor of his generation walking away with three Oscars, six nominations, and a mountain of iconic performances.

Fuck all that, Hollywood retirements never stick.

Danny Day is BACK.

This fall, Daniel Day-Lewis is back for one last ride. And the reason makes sense: the film is the feature-length directorial debut of his son, Ronan Day-Lewis. That’s a hook right there. Father starring in son’s movie, a full-circle kind of thing.

Daniel Day-Lewis Returns in ANEMONE

So what is ANEMONE?

Hell if I know. That trailer didn’t give us much. It’s filled with moody landscape shots, and a few cryptic conversations but none of that even matters. You have a heavyweight pairing of Daniel Day-Lewis and Ned Stark, the infamous Sean Bean.

We’re looking at generational conflicts, family bonds between fathers, sons, and brothers, and the personal journeys that break or mend them.

It’s a little vague, but you get the idea. This is an “actors acting” movie.

Nepo Project or Real Deal?

Nobody knows if Ronan Day-Lewis can actually direct. This could be an intimate masterpiece, or it could be a straight-up vanity project that only got green lit because Danny Day decided to lace ‘em up again.

Right now, it’s impossible to tell but even if it’s just okay, the fact that Daniel Day-Lewis is back on screen makes it a win.

If this film is nothing more than an excuse to get Daniel Day-Lewis out of retirement, then it’s already worth it because if there’s one guy who can drag me to a theater no matter what, it’s none other than Danny Day.
