Aaron Nola back in the win column, Phillies take down Nationals 6-4

The Phillies beat the Nationals 6-4 on Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park, and the story was Aaron Nola finally getting his first win since May 3.

It’s been a long road back after missing three months with a sprained ankle, but Nola looked like himself again, going six innings with six strikeouts.

Edmundo Sosa & Trea Turner Power the Offense

Nationals starter Mitchell Parker held the Phils hitless through three innings, but Edmundo Sosa broke it open in the fourth with a three-run bomb. That capped off a five-run inning that also included RBI doubles from J.T. Realmuto and Alec Bohm.

“…..LOVE SOSA”

Then there’s Trea Turner, who hasn’t been able to hit one out at Citizens Bank Park all season… until this week. He crushed a solo shot in the fifth to give Philly a 6-1 lead. That makes back-to-back games with homers at home for Turner, which is huge considering how hot he’s been since the All-Star break.

Trea Turner – RING IT

Jhoan Duran Shuts the Door

One night after blowing his first save as a Phillie, Jhoan Duran was back out for the ninth. With runners on the corners and the tying run looming, he struck out James Wood and got C.J. Abrams to line out to left to lock it down. That’s save number 23 on the year, and a big bounce-back moment for the Durantula.

Key Moment

The Nationals had the tying runs on base in the eighth inning, but Sosa made a slick defensive play at second to shut down Dylan Crews and keep Philly in control. Between the bat and glove, Sosa was everywhere.

Key Stat

How about David Robertson? The 40-year-old didn’t even debut this season until August 11 after signing late with the Phillies. But after striking out the side in the seventh inning, he’s now got 10 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings with Philly. Vintage DRob vibes.

Obligatory shoutout to JT Realmuto

What’s Next

The Phillies go for the series win Sunday with Ranger Suárez (9-6, 3.25 ERA) on the mound against Washington’s Jake Irvin (8-8, 5.30 ERA).
