“Friend Says Go, You Gotta Go”: Jersey surfer explains brutal Hurricane Erin wipeout in the best possible way
Hurricane Erin sent massive swells ripping up the East Coast last week, and the diehard Jersey surfers were out there chasing them.
Ten to twelve footers, some of the best waves the shore has seen in years, but with that kind of swell comes carnage. And our Jersey Surfer may have taken the worst of it.
Straight drop-in as the wave was already breaking, a wipeout that looked like it might end in a Coast Guard rescue. Naturally, this surfer never had a choice. He didn’t even pick the wave to conquer, his friend did.
Jersey Surfer: “Friend says go, you gotta go. No choice.”
That’s it. That’s the dude code in its purest form. Girls aren’t playing “Go.” Most regular guys aren’t either. It’s a game that’s been running on loyalty, recklessness, and respect for decades.
You don’t think, you don’t hesitate, you just trust the call and accept the punishment.
Shoutout to this Jersey Surfer specifically. Thirty years old, staring down hurricane surf, takes a beating that would make Poseidon wince, pops back up and laughs about it.
That’s the unwritten law of the open seas and honestly, the ultimate dream.
New Jersey’s waves will come and go, hurricanes come and go, but the unwritten law of the boys and high seas will always be undefeated.
