Sixers Iverson-era basketball court design

Sixers throwback court looks great, but it’s missing the most important detail from the Iverson-era branding

Somebody snagged a few snapshots of the crew laying down the new “Iverson Era” court at the shiny Xfinity Mobile Arena, and I’ve gotta admit, it looks awesome.

Black paint, throwback baseline typography, old-school 76 logo splashed in the corners and at halfcourt. Pure nostalgia and really, the only exciting thing about the Sixers heading into the 2025-26 NBA season.

The Sixers Throwback Court Looks Great…

Honestly, it’s a shame that the Sixers can’t throw it all the way back to the days when they are actually a competent NBA organization with a good basketball team, am I right?

Kidding. Kind of.

Even with the return of the Iverson-era black uniforms, this court doesn’t really do it justice. Where are the basketball comets? That’s arguably the most important part of the entire design.

That’s not the perfect replica of the First Union Center’s floor from the 2001 NBA Finals. We have black instead of blue, but I guess it’s the closest reminder of good basketball being played in South Philly that we’ll get, so there’s that.

But Seriously… Where Are the Comets?

Where are the basketball comets? Back in the day, those flaming shooting-star basketballs across the floor really tied the entire design together. Look at this beauty.

The black paint is tough. The jerseys are going to look sick. The Sixers won’t bring back Hip-Hop. Franklin will get to enjoy the Iverson-era uniforms, unfortunately.

At the very least, they can deliver on the basketball comets. If Xfinity Mobile Arena was smart, they would be making this a top priority to win over an already-fractured fanbase.

Until then, I’ll guess we have no other choice but to hold out hope that Hip Hop does make an appearance and that the 2025-26 Sixers play at least half as hard as Allen Iverson did on a random Tuesday night in February.
