Ben Simmons Free Agency Vet Minimum

Ben Simmons still thinks he’s worth more than a veteran minimum but unfortunately the NBA strongly disagrees

Another week, another Ben Simmons update that makes you shake your head and wonder “what the hell happened to this dude” and “things would have went differently if he stayed in Philly.”

According to Sam Amico of Hoops Wire, Ben Simmons is out here in free agency looking for a deal above the veteran minimum.

Yes, really.

The same Ben Simmons who doesn’t shoot, doesn’t score, and barely plays anymore is apparently holding out for a bigger payday than the $3.3 million vet minimum that comes with his service time.

Ben Simmons is 29 years old, has played in just 108 of a possible 246 games over the last three years, and last season averaged 5.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game.

When he was with an actual playoff team in the Los Angeles Clippers, those numbers fell even further to 2.9/3.8/3.1.

That’s not “let’s pay you more than the minimum” production. That’s “let’s see if you still exist in the league by December” production.

To make it even better, Ben Simmons has already banked over $200 million in his career. This isn’t about financial need, it’s about surprise, surprise his ego.

Simmons still sees himself as the multi-time All-Star he used to be, while the rest of the NBA sees him as a role player who might give you 15 decent minutes if his back doesn’t flare up.

Sure, there have been some whispers that a couple surprise teams, even the Celtics, were kicking the tires on him. I just don’t see that happening at this point.

Unless Simmons changes his stance, he’s more likely to end up on an NBA 2K roster than a real one when training camp rolls around.

What a fall from grace for Ben Simmons

It’s not even about hating on the guy, it’s about reality. You don’t get paid for what you used to be. You get paid for what you can do now. Right now, Ben Simmons is at most, a vet minimum player.

And yes, I want the Philadelphia 76ers to re-sign him. Obviously. There’s literally nothing else to be excited about so why not get the boys back together?

Ben Simmons loves Philly and 76ers fans so again, I’m calling for unity to finally ‘Complete The Process’
