WATCH: Mavericks fans are still not over Nico Harrison trading Luka Doncic
Mavs fans still aren’t close to getting over the Luka trade, and Nico Harrison is going to be hearing about it for the rest of his life.
Dallas’ GM pulled off one of the worst moves in recent memory when he shipped Luka Doncic to the Lakers without even testing the market. That kind of thing isn’t just a bad trade, it’s a betrayal. The kind of decision that sticks with a fanbase forever.
Over the weekend, that anger spilled out in real life. A fan spotted Harrison at a restaurant and decided to walk up just to let him know, face to face, that everyone still hates his guts.
Mavericks fan lets Nico Harrison that everyone still hates his guts
I really want to like this video but unfortunately, I can’t. Trust me, I know Mavericks fans are devastated, and understandably so. They had their franchise player stolen from them in his prime, and to the team they hate the most.
If the Sixers ever pulled something like that with Joel Embiid or Tyrese Maxey, Philadelphia wouldn’t make it through the night.
Well maybe not actually, but you get my point.
The anger towards Nico Harrison is justified, no question about it.
I do think there’s a difference between booing a guy in the arena and walking up on him when he’s trying to eat dinner. Fans have every right to unload when they’re in the building, but tracking down the GM in public and unloading there doesn’t make you a hero. It just makes you look weird.
The truth is, Nico Harrison already knows exactly how Mavericks fans feel about him. He doesn’t need some stranger at a restaurant reminding him. Not to mention, he immediately turned around, shook the dudes hand, and was being very welcoming. To then turn it around to let him know you hate his guts is just pointless.
Obviously, Luka Doncic is wearing purple and gold, the Lakers got a generational superstar, and the Mavericks got clowned. That stain isn’t going away. Mavs fans will keep chanting “Fire Nico” when the season starts, and they’ll have plenty of chances to let him have it.
That’s fair and really, that’s part of the deal.
Outside of the arena, when Nico Harrison is just living his life, maybe let him sit down and finish his meal without turning it into another viral moment. Luka Doncic isn’t walking back through the door, and everyone already knows who to blame.
