Kyle Schwarber

According to Bob Nightengale, Kyle Schwarber ‘isn’t going anywhere’ this offseason, will be back with the Phillies

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale threw cold water on one of the loudest talking points of the 2025 MLB offseason, stating that Kyle Schwarber isn’t going anywhere and will re-sign with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Obviously, that’s exactly what Phillies fans want to hear and honestly, it’s been my general consensus on Schwarber’s free agency from the start of discussions dating back to Spring Training in February.

Trust me, I understand the source. Nightengale is far from reliable and him saying that really means nothing in the grand scheme of things, but it does make sense.

According to Bob Nightengale, Kyle Schwarber ‘isn’t going anywhere…’

According to Nightengale, “Forget all of the talk, Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber isn’t going anywhere this winter. He loves Philadelphia, and more important, the Phillies love him. They simply will not be out-bid by any team, knowing how vital he is to them as not only their greatest power hitter, but their ultimate clubhouse leader.”

Kyle Schwarber here to stay?

Again, this isn’t shocking. The Phillies can’t just let a guy who will be in the Top 3 in home runs and RBIs this season walk away. Not to mention, Kyle Schwarber is a clubhouse leader and has the entire city buzzing every time he steps up to the plate.

The Phillies can’t just let him test free agency without a fight. Schwarber is as Philly as it gets at this point. He’s power, chaos, and leadership all rolled into one.

Yeah, he’ll be expensive. Yeah, he’s 32. That doesn’t change the fact that the Phillies are in win-now mode, and Schwarber is the dude you want in October when it’s time to hit the ball 450 feet and slam several Bud Lights in the clubhouse celebrations afterward.

The Phillies are sitting at 83-59, seven games up in the NL East, and gearing up for another postseason run. As we all know, they have knocked on the door for a few years now. World Series in 2022, NLCS in 2023, and then last year’s embarrassment against the Mets.

Point being, this team knows their window is wide open, and Kyle Schwarber is one of the biggest reasons why. It would be shocking if Dave Dombrowski let Schwarber walk this offseason.

I guess we’ll have to see how things shakeout in Red October. I do believe that could impact Schwarber and the organization’s decision to bring him back when it’s all said and done this year.

Obviously, it’s nice to read that but it doesn’t really matter right now. The only question left is whether this is finally the October where the Phillies finish the job.
