Ranger Suarez SHOVES

With Zack Wheeler sidelined by complications from a blood clot, the Phillies need someone to step into that ace spotlight, and Ranger Suárez is out here auditioning for the role. The lefty was flat-out nasty, tossing six innings of one-hit, shutout baseball while striking out 12.

He dropped Juan Soto and Pete Alonso in the first inning alone, setting the tone early. Ranger threw 99 pitches, 60 for strikes, and has now allowed just one earned run while striking out 29 across his last 24 innings. That’s as “ace” as it gets.

Schwarbomb No. 50

Then came the fireworks. Kyle Schwarber got a hanging pitch from Mets reliever Justin Hagenman in the seventh and launched it into orbit for his 50th home run of the season, a three-run blast that made it 7-1.

“50 Schwarbombs” flashed on the scoreboard, the crowd roared “MVP! MVP!” and Kyle Schwarber obliged with a curtain call. It’s the first time a National League player has reached 50 this season, and it puts him within striking distance of Ryan Howard’s 2006 franchise record of 58.
