Phillies Injury Updates: Turner ‘ahead of schedule’, Alec Bohm to rejoin team out west, Edmundo Sosa day-to-day

The Phillies are rolling toward an NL East crown and the most impressive part about that is the fact that they’re destroying opposing ball clubs without some key names in the lineup.

Phillies are one win away from clinching the NL East >>

Between injuries, suspensions, and lingering issues, Rob Thomsonโ€™s roster has been juggling pieces down the stretch, and here’s the latest on the walking wounded.

Trea Turner โ€“ 10-Day IL (Right Hamstring)

Turner strained his hammy last weekend in Miami and hit the IL on Monday. The good news was that itโ€™s just a Grade 1 strain, and Topper says Turner is already throwing, fielding, and running in the pool.

He could start swinging again as soon as Sunday or Monday. He wonโ€™t make the West Coast trip, but the expectation is heโ€™ll be back before the postseason starts.

Alec Bohm โ€“ 10-Day IL (Shoulder)

Bohmโ€™s been sidelined with shoulder inflammation, but this one doesnโ€™t sound long-term. Heโ€™ll travel with the team out West, and the hope is heโ€™s ready to roll for the Arizona series that starts Friday.

Edmundo Sosa โ€“ Day-to-Day (Groin)

Sosa left Friday nightโ€™s game with right groin tightness and has been battling the issue for a while. He saw a doctor Saturday, and while the Phillies donโ€™t know yet if heโ€™ll need an IL stint, heโ€™s expected to miss at least a couple of days. Bryson Stott is sliding over to shortstop in his absence.

Jordan Romano โ€“ 15-Day IL (Neck/Finger)

Romanoโ€™s rehab hit a snag. He was set to face hitters this weekend, but stiffness in his neck and numbness in his pitching finger put everything on hold. The Phillies suspect a nerve issue. No further testing for now. Theyโ€™re just waiting it out but if we’re being honest, it’s not like Romano has a place on the Phillies any longer regardless.

Zack Wheeler โ€“ Out for the Season

The ace wonโ€™t be back. Wheeler is scheduled for thoracic outlet decompression surgery on Sept. 23 in St. Louis after dealing with a blood clot and related issues earlier this summer. Recovery is pegged at six to eight months, meaning the Phillies will go through October without their No. 1 and wonโ€™t see him again until sometime in 2026.

Josรฉ Alvarado โ€“ Out for the Season

Alvaradoโ€™s year is done. He was shut down with a mild left forearm strain, though he was already ineligible for the postseason after his 80-game PED suspension. The Phillies hold a $9 million club option on him for 2026, and theyโ€™ll have a tough call to make this winter.

Josรฉ Alvaradoโ€™s 2025 season is officially over, leaving future with Phillies in doubt

Daniel Robert โ€“ Out for the Season

Another bullpen casualty. Robert strained his right forearm on Sept. 3 and was shifted to the 60-day IL last week. His season is over.

Phillies can clinch NL East today.

Kyle Schwarber just keeps mashing, and the Phillies just keep winning. On Saturday night, Schwarber launched his 51st homer of the season. It was a game-tying shot in the fifth inning, as the Phillies beat the Royals 8-6 for their sixth straight win.

The win puts The Fightins on the doorstep of back-to-back NL East titles. Complete the sweep on Sunday with Aaron Nola on the mound and the division is theirs.
