Free AJ Brown: Eagles route concepts for their #1 WR were a disaster against the Buccaneers

I hate that I have to write a negative blog on this fine victory Monday, Eagles fans. But sometimes, that’s what needs to be done. And while the Birds squeaked out 31-25 win in Tampa on Sunday, there are still a lot of growing pains with this Kevin Patullo offense.

Somehow the Philadelphia Eagles are 4-0 and it feels like their two best wide receivers have yet to be a consistent force in the offense. Most notably, AJ Brown. Who did indeed take to Twitter yet again following this game.

AJ Brown Cryptic Tweet

Look, AJ is frustrated man. And why wouldn’t he be? if the Eagles are going to get back to the Super Bowl, this passing game has to be consistent and far more creative for a full four quarters of football.

Now, I’m not one of those Eagles fans who’s going to sit and here and say “fire Patullo”, because we are literally 4 games into this season and undefeated. And there have been signs of growth in this passing game. The second half against the Rams and the first half against the Buccaneers should come to mind.

There’s some signs of life

But, when you finish a game with nine targets in AJ Brown’s direction and all you have to show for it is 2 receptions for 7 yards, that is a major problem. And when you go back and watch the tape; he’s literally running the same couple routes the entire freakin game.

AJ Brown route tree is a disaster

S,o while I don’t love his cryptic tweet after the game, I certainly understand AJ Brown’s frustration. I mean do we really have to stoop down to 94.1 WIP’s level about this? Or can we all be adults and talk football?

AJ Brown is a top 3 wide receiver in the NFL. Not to mention he’s a Super Bowl Champion. A proven winner and a team-first guy. Him wanting the football doesn’t make him selfish. It makes him aware.

Aware of the fact that what Kevin Patullo is doing with him in this offense is maddening and needs to be corrected.

Luckily, the Eagles are 4-0 and have beaten some quality teams thus far that spent all offseason game-planning to beat the World Champions. With that said, I truly fear for the NFL once this offense figures out how to get their weapons going which also includes Saquon Barkley by the way who has had a very quiet season himself.
