Analysis: Oregon coach Dan Lanning probably hit the Happy Valley slopes before his big win over Penn State

There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding Oregon head coach Dan Lanning since his team beat Penn State in Happy Valley on Saturday. Most of it has to do with his postgame interview, where he was jazzed up about the big win.

The media’s calling it “big game energy,” but the media isn’t allowed to talk about what’s really going on here. And that’s why you’re here reading this.

Before I break this down, this is pure analysis and nothing more. I don’t know for a fact if any of my speculation is true or not. But as a former snowboarder and someone who liked to ride my snowmobile around from time to time, I believe I’m qualified to speak on this matter.

Let’s look at the mannerisms. Twitchy jaw, glossy wide eyes, licking the teeth. That’s typically a dead giveaway. Adrenaline, regardless of how high it is, usually doesn’t get you THAT fired up. Now, a few rides down the slope, that’ll getcha there. If you know, you know.

Now listen to what he says, repeating words, very expressive with every syllable. Again, I don’t think pure adrenaline gets you to that point. And if we’re all being honest with ourselves, Dan Lanning just looks like a guy who likes to hit the ski resort every now and again. Nothing wrong with that at all.

If there’s one thing to take away from this, it’s that anyone can snowboard while building a successful career. That’s the beauty of America. Work hard, play hard, and sometimes even blend the two. To me, Lanning is the perfect example of the American Dream in action.
