Matt Strahm locks in 2026 with Phillies after passing physical

The Phillies locked up another key bullpen piece for the future. Dave Dombrowski announced Tuesday that Matt Strahm passed his end-of-season physical, officially triggering his $7.5 million vesting option for 2026.

Matt Strahm’s deal, signed ahead of the 2025 season, included a 60 innings pitched clause and the requirement to pass a physical in order to guarantee a payday in 2026.

He did both with room to spare. The lefty logged 62.1 innings with a 2.74 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 70 strikeouts, and a 3.5 K/BB ratio in the regular season.

That makes Strahm a major weapon not only for the upcoming postseason run but for the Phillies in 2026 as another proven arm out of the bullpen.

Speaking of the bullpen, the core is shaping up nicely. Jhoan Duran is under contract, Orion Kerkering is still pre-arb, Tanner Banks is heading into arbitration, and now Strahm is guaranteed.

At $7.5M, Matt Strahm’s value is rock solid for what he brings. I fully expect him to be a key part of what we all hope to be a very long postseason run.

Overall, it’s another smart piece of business for Dombrowski, who’s making sure this bullpen is locked up for another season.
