Mark Sanchez arrested for drunken knife fight in an alleyway, topping the Butt Fumble as his most embarrassing moment

Mark Sanchez just found a way to top the Butt Fumble, and it involves a knife fight in an Indianapolis alley.

The man’s career was already defined by one of the most humiliating plays in NFL history, but somehow, he’s managed to outdo himself. The former Jets and Eagles quarterback was charged after allegedly starting a drunken altercation with a 69-year-old man behind a Marriott. The fight ended with Sanchez getting stabbed multiple times and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

According to court documents, the whole thing started around 12:30 a.m. when Mark Sanchez, clearly hammered, approached a guy just doing his job — collecting used cooking oil from restaurants. Surveillance footage shows Sanchez jogging into the alley, climbing into the man’s truck despite being told to leave, and then proceeding to throw hands with him.

The 69-year-old, who probably just wanted to finish his shift and go home, tried using pepper spray to back him off. When that didn’t work and Sanchez kept advancing, the man pulled a knife and went full self-defense mode. Investigators say the video matches the worker’s story exactly. Sanchez, meanwhile, told police he only remembers “grabbing for a window.” You can’t make this stuff up.

He was charged with Battery Resulting in Injury, Public Intoxication, and Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle, then processed at the hospital and released on bond. FOX Sports immediately yanked him from Sunday’s Colts-Raiders broadcast, with Brady Quinn filling in.

Mark Sanchez: From the Butt Fumble to the Back Alley

To make things even better, Indiana’s governor and lieutenant governor initially blamed the stabbing on “lawlessness” in Indianapolis — only to delete their tweets once it came out that Sanchez was the one allegedly causing chaos. The prosecutor even called them out for trying to “exploit senseless violence for political gain.”

So let’s call it what it is: the most Mark Sanchez story imaginable. A guy who fumbled into his teammate’s ass now finds himself charged after allegedly climbing into another man’s truck and getting stabbed in an alley. You couldn’t script it better if you tried.

The Butt Fumble walked so the Butt Knife Fight could run.
