Clown Narrative, Bro: Yankees reporter Joel Sherman thinks the Phillies will trade Bryce Harper this offseason
Here come the New York media clowns again, trying to stir up drama that doesn’t exist. Joel Sherman of the New York Post decided to say he “wouldn’t be shocked” if Bryce Harper was traded this offseason… on his Yankees podcast, of course.
It should go without saying that a Yankees beat guy knows absolutely nothing about the inner-workings of the Philadelphia Phillies. It’s amost insulting to even listen to and if I was a baseball fan in the Bronx, I would be calling for this guy to be fired.
Joel Sherman is one of those “I talk to executives all the time” types, which are the absolute worst. The Sherminator is basically every other “insider” on the radio and internet, who push anonymous sources that don’t really exist. It’s engagement farming at best and complete propaganda at worst.
Yankees Joel Sherman thinks the Phillies will trade Bryce Harper this offseason
Cool Story, Bro.
It’s giving “New England trying to justify trading A.J. Brown” energy.
This is the same fake outrage and speculative bullshit designed to create chaos amongst the ranks here in Philly. Unfortunately, we’ve been through this same, tired playbook one too many times to actually fall for the wild hypotheticals from “insiders” who are talking shit, sitting back, and waiting for clicks.
Honestly, I don’t even hate it anymore. Mission accomplished, Joel Sherman. Now I can write a blog about how dumb you are and take more clicks than your false intel generated for you. Thank you, sir.
Let’s Be Clear: Bryce Harper Isn’t Going Anywhere
This isn’t a discussion. It’s not even close. Harper’s under contract through 2031, has a full no-trade clause, and has said repeatedly he wants to retire in Philadelphia.
Obviously, it’s not even like Bryce Harper is a fringe roster decision this offseason. He’s going to be back and his track record here in Philly has been a massive success.
Maybe I’m overthinking it, but out of everything, Bryce Harper deserves a bit more respect than what Joel Sherman, and even Dave Dombrowski are willing to give him over the past few weeks.
Dave Dombrowski’s comments on Bryce Harper were completely ridiculous >>
Oh…Scott Boras, Harper’s agent, even shut this down yesterday:
“I don’t think Dave Dombrowski or John Middleton or anybody is contemplating Bryce Harper not being a Philadelphia Phillie for the rest of his career.”
That pretty much sums it up, right? We’re done here.
Not that he needed to, but Scott Boras also pointed out that Bryce Harper is still an elite hitter by every metric that matters. He finished 2025 with a .355 on-base percentage and a .485 slugging percentage, ranking right alongside Ohtani, Soto, and Judge. His WAR was on par with his best years in Philly.
Bryce Harper’s numbers don’t lie, even if Joel Sherman’s podcast does.
The New York Spin Machine at Work
This is classic New York behavior. When their own team’s a mess, they turn their attention to someone else’s star player. It’s the same “maybe he’s unhappy” nonsense they used to pull with Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady when they needed clicks.
More recently, we have seen the same shit with AJ Brown and the Philadelphia Eagles. That turned out to be so bad that even our own Philly Sports Talk radio hosts fell for it.
Let’s all hope that they don’t flip over to Bryce Harper and do the same thing but given the fact that most of their content and talking points come from this website, I would expect to flip on the radio later today and hear this being discussed.
Again, trying to start a “Bryce Harper might be on the move” rumor is next-level dumb. You’d think the Yankees, of all teams, after watching their own franchise crumble under bad contracts and worse management, they’d stop pretending to know how other teams operate.
Bryce Harper has publicly said he loves Philadelphia. He literally forced his way here for less money because he wanted to build something long-term. The Phillies have built the roster around him. They’ve invested in him, branded around him, and he’s still producing at an elite level.
There’s no trade. There’s no story. Just a desperate attempt from a Yankees reporter to stay relevant during another October where his own team’s golfing.
Great Job, Joel Sherman
He got his headline. In the end, that’s the whole point, right?
Say something vague enough to make people react. “I wouldn’t be shocked” is the laziest form of sports talk there is. You can’t be wrong because you never actually said it would happen. So yeah, Joel Sherman got what he wanted.
Bryce Harper is staying in Philadelphia, right where he belongs, while the Yankees continue to live in the past. Maybe instead of fantasizing about other teams’ superstars, New York should try developing one of their own.
