WATCH: Giannis explains how he got a black eye while fighting crime at a grocery store
The Bucks posted a video a few days back featuring Giannis Antetokounmpo explaining how he got a black eye at a grocery store in Milwaukee while preventing an alleged thief from stealing a woman’s purse. Naturally, I have some questions.
Giannis explains how he got a black eye while fighting crime at a grocery store
This is no laughing matter. Per Sources was nearly on point with their reply. Outside of the actual breakdown of preventing the robbery, Giannis isn’t grocery shopping at the local Pick N Save… especially not in Milwaukee.
If that did happen, then clearly the Bucks organization is in big trouble but I think we all know that Giannis is full of shit. I want to believe that he’s a crusader in the night preventing crime. He’d likely be damn good at it too, but everything he’s saying here is complete nonsense.
I figured grocery shopping was left to at least one of his four brothers, Francis, Thanasis, Kostas, and Alex. I mean hell, Thanasis and Alex are even on the Bucks with Giannis and are a net zero to the team’s success. They are glorified charity cases that have lockers Fiserv Forum because of their last name.
Regardless, none of this even is about the Antetokounmpo family. It’s about the wild story that was debunked from the first sentence that Giannis told reporters.

Milwaukee’s crime rate is higher than both the state and national averages. The crime rate is 182% higher than the state of Wisconsin’s average. They hold a higher crime rate than most U.S. cities, with a safety index indicating that 96% of U.S. cities are safer.
It has ranked among cities with the highest violent crime rates in the nation. ‘
But sure, Giannis says that he was “checking out his groceries” and witnessed this guy “about to snatch” a purse from a lady. He then claims he yelled out… “hey man! What are you doing, stop!” and went and grabbed the dude, who turned and elbowed him in the eye.
Honestly, it’s pretty hilarious. I can’t figure out why no one interviewing him was laughing or saying “wait a second, what are you even talking about brother” because it’s clearly bullshit.
I’ll entertain it though, of course…
Giannis is 6’11” and weighs 243 pounds. Unless the alleged thief was really tall or there was some type of situation where Giannis was leaning over to attempt this man from trying to “snatch a purse”, I really can’t get behind the story at all.
Giannis then says he grabbed him, put him on the floor, took the purse and returned it to the lady. He goes on to confirm that the lady was safe and not only did he stop the robbery, he paid for her groceries. The police then came and took the guy into custody.
Giannis then just casually went back home, did some treatment, and took a nap. All in a days work, I guess.
