Joel Embiid

Joel Embiid mentions Ben Simmons after last night’s Sixers game and this can only mean one thing

The Sixers rolled out the vintage black jerseys last night, and everything about it just felt right. Joel Embiid looked like his old dominant self, Kelly Oubre kept balling, Tyrese Maxey continued his MVP-level tear, and Trendon Watford went full point-forward mode and dropped a triple-double.

Trendon Watford Triple Double: 20 points. 17 rebounds. 10 assists.

Read that again.

To be completely honest, I didn’t even have this man on my preseason radar. I’m a hoops junkie, and still, when the season tipped off, I thought “Trendon Watford” sounded more like a MyCareer-generated player than a real one.

Now I’m a believer. Dude’s a legitimate two-way point forward. Sound familiar? It should. Because Joel Embiid wasted no time after the game reminding everyone of a certain someone from the past.

It sure does. And Joel Embiid wasted no time letting everyone know…

Embiid talked Watford’s stat line with a sly nod to his old running mate, Ben Simmons.

My heart can’t take it. After years of silence between the two, it feels like Joel might finally be at peace with the ghost of Simmons past.

And honestly, good for him. Embiid’s been fun again this season. The smile’s back, the trolling’s back, and the Sixers are thriving. This is when he’s at his absolute best, dominating on the floor and terrorizing the internet off it.

And as for the free agent, Ben Simmons

This Sixers roster is perfectly setup for a guy like Benjamin Simmons to come in here and do what he does best.

Lock up the perimeter, switch on defense and facilitate for all the scoring guards on this roster. Even with Paul George returning to the lineup, the Sixers could still use another wing, if we’re being honest.

The crazy thing about all of this is, all jokes aside, I think Nick Nurse would be the perfect coach for Ben Simmons at this point in his career. I think he could unlock him and find ways for him to be useful.

You probably think I’m a sicko for even typing that out. Well, welcome to the fucking show. You know, for a lot of people the struggle to get over an ex. For me, that ex is Ben Simmons. I know, I’m sorry.

And for all you miserable Joel Embiid haters out there:

Where are you now? You all jumped ship (shocker) after he had one bad fourth quarter against the Bulls. Those same people have been whining like a bunch of bitches on my timeline about Embiid looking “cooked” or out of shape. Where are you now?

Joel Embiid last night:

  • 29 Points
  • 6 Rebounds
  • 4 Assists
  • 10/16 FGM
  • +15 +/-
  • 26 Minutes

Unfortunately, the Sixers face an underrated Pistons team tonight on a back-to-back. Which likely means no Embiid. It sure would be nice to have Ben Simmons in the lineup to help generate some looks for our scorers now wouldn’t it?

Also, I somehow completely forgot something. All this blogging and we forgot all those Ben Simmons photoshops we use to share of him in the black Sixers jersey. Yeah… It’s only right he comes home and finishes the story.
