Eagles edge rusher Jalyx Hunt nearly turned into public enemy No. 1 on Monday night when his post-tackle celebration came dangerously close to connecting with an unsuspecting official.
After taking down Josh Jacobs in the backfield, Jalyx Hunt spun around to flex and accidentally unleashed a wild arm swing that missed the referee’s head by inches.

Honestly, credit to the official for surviving that moment. If Hunt connects there, we’re talking about a full-on league crisis. The official would’ve been laid out cold, the game would’ve been stopped for at least 30 minutes, and you just know Roger Goodell would’ve come flying in from New York ready to write new rules on the spot.
Helmeted refs. No celebrations. Fifteen-yard penalties for excessive breathing near an official. It would’ve changed football forever.
As it stands, Jalyx Hunt avoided disaster and likely a lifetime ban (or worse) from league offices. It does raise a legit question: What happens if you actually hit a ref like that?
Is it an automatic ejection? You’d think so. I doubt it would even matter if it’s intentional or not. If you deliver a knockout punch to an official, I don’t think it’s crazy to think that Hunt would be gone. Maybe accidental shove slides but a spinning forearm and closed fist? I would think that’s an early trip to the locker room every time for being “reckless.”
To the official’s credit, his reflexes were elite.
The dude dipped and ducked like he’s been studying tape on Muhammad Ali. After how flag-happy this crew was all game, it’s almost poetic that the one thing they didn’t throw a flag on was the play that almost decapitated one of their own.
The Eagles ended up fine, Hunt didn’t get tossed, and the ref lived to call another questionable holding penalty. But man, football got dangerously close to its “Malice at the Palace” moment in Green Bay.
