Game Ball: Jaelan Phillips was absolutely ridiculous in Eagles debut

You could tell from the jump this one meant a little extra to Jaelan Phillips. The guy came out like a man possessed in his first game as an Eagle, flying around, hitting everything in sight, and proving exactly why Howie Roseman pulled the trigger on the trade.

Just a week after being dealt to Philadelphia for a 2026 third-round pick, Phillips called the move “the greatest thing that’s happened to me in my whole life.” Based on what we saw Monday night in Green Bay, you believe him.

The Eagles’ defense dominated the Packers up front and held them scoreless for 54 minutes. Phillips led all edge rushers in snaps and finished with six tackles, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble that set up a crucial fourth-down stop late in the game. He also recovered Nakobe Dean’s strip sack earlier in the night, flashing elite awareness and effort for someone who had only been in the building a few days.

Jaelan Phillips’ debut stat line was ridiculous: Eight pressures, seven hurries, six tackles, six stops, a forced fumble, a recovery, and a 19.4 percent pressure rate. He even earned a game ball from the locker room after the win.

For a guy who just arrived, Phillips looked like he had been in the system for years. He played 53 of 68 defensive snaps, which is 78 percent, and gave Vic Fangio’s defense an immediate boost. His energy was contagious from the opening drive.

Before the game, Phillips admitted he got emotional when he saw his dad and uncle in the stands after making the trip from Chicago to watch his Eagles debut at Lambeau Field. After the game, he got to share the moment with them.

Of all the plays he made, the fourth-and-one stop with under two minutes left was the exclamation point. That play sealed the game and announced his arrival in Philadelphia.

The timing of it all couldn’t be better. The Eagles came off the bye, got Nolan Smith back, and now have Jaelan Phillips anchoring the edge. This defense is finally starting to look like the one fans expected to see back in September.

The combination of the bye week, Nolan Smith returning, and the huge addition of Jaelan Phillips has this Eagles defense morphing into form at the perfect time.

Howie Roseman did it again. After losing several key players on defense, he went out and found the perfect fit. If Phillips keeps playing like this, the Eagles might have found the final piece they needed for another Super Bowl run.
