Jared McCain Optioned Delaware Blue Coats

Sixers option Jared McCain to the Delaware Blue Coats

The Sixers sent Jared McCain to the Delaware Blue Coats on Thursday, and before anyone melts down on social media, relax. This is not a demotion but rather the basketball version of a rehab assignment.

According to reports, Jared McCain will suit up for the Blue Coats on Thursday and Saturday. He will still be on a minutes restriction, but unlike in the NBA where he has been stuck in short, choppy stints, the Blue Coats will give him real runs so he can actually get up and down the floor.

Nick Nurse made it clear that this trip to the G League will not be a long stay. It could last only those two games. The priority is simple. Jared McCain needs reps and needs to regain some rhythm to feel like himself again.

To his credit, McCain has been open about how uncomfortable he feels playing with that bulky brace on his surgically repaired left knee.

Something is definitely off because across three NBA appearances, he has yet to score a point. It is impossible to evaluate a young guard when he is moving like someone who does not trust his own leg yet.

Smart Move.

Delaware gives him the freedom to make mistakes, shake off rust, and get the ball in his hands without feeling like every possession is a final exam. Jared McCain needs to feel stable and explosive again. I think we’re all in agreement that a couple nights with the Blue Coats should help him get there.
