The Perfect Storm: AJ Brown vs. the Detroit Lions Secondary tomorrow night

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m calling it right now. And before anyone tries to hit me with the “don’t jinx it” nonsense, save it. I’m not a coward. I am an Eagles fan staring right into a full-blown statement game tomorrow night at the Linc against the Detroit Lions.

Before we even get into score predictions, let’s talk about something that should have every Eagles fan foaming at the mouth. This Lions secondary is banged the hell up. Which is exactly what I will be tomorrow afternoon in those beautiful tailgate lots (pause). And by that, I mean from slugging beers in the freezing cold.

No Terrion Arnold. No D.J. Reed. Amik Robertson is questionable. Detroit is basically fielding a secondary built from spare parts and LinkedIn recommendations. If I’m Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, and DeVonta Smith, I am licking my chops.

Eagles offensive gameplan Sunday Night

All week long we’ve had to listen to AJ Brown’s “passive aggressive” comments being dissected like a CSI crime scene. Every loser with a microphone is trying to interpret body language and lip-reading like they’re the world’s dumbest private investigator. It’s annoying, it’s exhausting, but historically this is the type of week that leads to offensive fireworks.

How soon have we forgotten?

I remember exactly where I was last year before the Eagles played the Steelers. Felt it in my bones. I knew Jalen Hurts was about to go nuclear through the air. And he did. The same feeling is back, and this time it’s screaming AJ Brown.

Let’s not pretend AJ hasn’t cooked the Lions before. His first-ever game as an Eagle came against Detroit in Week 1 of 2022. He walked out there and roasted them for 10 catches and 155 yards. That wasn’t a debut. That was an announcement.

The moment is sitting right there

Obviously, different times, different schemes. But the Lions’ secondary is a skeleton crew and AJ Brown is still a top-five weapon in the league. And just to refresh your memory, I pulled up the tape. The Eagles under Shane Steichen used AJ in every way imaginable whether it’s behind the line, in-breaking routes, slot looks, quick hitters. You name it.

None of this is complicated. Kevin Patullo doesn’t need to be a genius. Just get the ball into the hands of your most explosive player. Use the RPO slant they run for Goedert. Use motion. Use anything. This is not rocket science.

Man or zone, the matchups favor Philly all night long. And with the Lions missing half their defensive backfield, there has never been a better time to let AJ Brown eat.

Tail at your own risk (I ain’t no bitch)

I feel very confident about tomorrow. The vibes are perfect. The matchup is perfect. The spotlight is perfect. This feels like the setup to that type of AJ Brown game.

Regardless, Eagles fans: I feel very confident about tomorrow night overall. And for some reason it just feels like the perfect storm for AJ Brown.

Hate on the parlay if you want, but when I feel good, I hit. Before the Rams game in Week 3, I cooked up a heater and cashed it. I know that was 8 weeks ago and basically in a different universe at this point but how could you not follow this one?

SGP (+453):

  • AJ Brown 70+ yards
  • AJ Brown over 4.5 receptions
  • AJ Brown anytime TD
  • Jalen Hurts over 203.5 passing yards

I’m feeling that same energy again. Tomorrow night at the Linc is an AJ Brown reminder game. And Detroit is about to learn the hard way.
