Dua Lipa NBC Olympics Team USA Commercial

NBC taps Dua Lipa for a Team USA Olympics Commercial because apparently Nationalism and America First ideology no longer exists

NBC has officially decided that America does not matter anymore. There is no other explanation for why the network would choose Dua Lipa, a London-born Albanian-Kosovar pop star with three passports and zero connection to the United States, to be the face of a Team USA Winter Olympics commercial.

The Olympic Games are supposed to be the one moment where nationalism is not only acceptable but encouraged. This is supposed to be the time when every American, no matter where they live, screams at the television as our athletes steamroll the rest of the world.

The Olympics used to stand for something. They were a global reminder that the United States shows up, dominates, and plants the flag.

Somehow NBC looked at all of that history and said, “You know who should introduce Team USA this year? Someone who is not American.”

What are we doing?

During the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, NBC aired a Team USA promo starring Dua Lipa walking around Milan while speaking Italian, posing like a fashion model, blowing kisses, and casually name-dropping American athletes she has never met and will never meet. She is in an Italian shopping gallery. Her own song is playing in the background. Then she switches to English and pretends to be excited about Team USA.

NBC taps Dua Lipa for a Team USA Olympics Commercial:

There is nothing patriotic about it. There is nothing inspiring about it.

It feels like NBC decided to hand off American identity to someone who cannot legally run for president here, cannot represent the country in any capacity, and has already represented the United Kingdom at major global events.

This is not progress. This is not global unity. This is stupidity.

NBC had a responsibility to hype the American athletes who will actually compete. They could have used real Olympians. They could have used American actors, American musicians, American veterans, or literally any American citizen with a pulse. Instead they outsourced Team USA’s identity to a British pop star because she looks good on camera.

I like looking at Dua Lipa like everybody else. That is not the point. She is not part of this country and she has no business being the face of our Olympic team. This is supposed to be America’s moment. NBC turned it into a generic international fashion commercial.

What happened to taking pride in our athletes? What happened to celebrating the country? What happened to the idea that the Olympics are not the place to play identity roulette?

NBC abandoned the one global stage where America is allowed to stand tall and unapologetically cheer for its own. They tossed away the entire spirit of the Games and replaced it with a celebrity cameo from someone with no ties to this nation.

If this is how NBC plans to promote Team USA, they might as well let Great Britain call our races next. This is a disgrace to the tradition, to the Games, and to every American athlete preparing to compete in Milan.
