Flyers hand Devils first home regulation loss, finish road trip 3-1-0

The Flyers had every reason to fold in a back-to-back spot, but instead they rolled into Newark and handed the Devils their first regulation home loss of the season with a 5-3 win.

Owen Tippett and Matvei Michkov powered the effort, each scoring twice, with Tippett earning his second on an awarded goal after a Devils trip on the empty net.

Trevor Zegras added a goal and an assist, Travis Konecny chipped in two helpers, and Dan Vladar was outstanding with 29 saves, including a huge backdoor stop on Nico Hischier that kept the game tied early.

Philly jumped ahead in the second period when Michkov came out of the box and scored on a 2-on-1 with Konecny, then deflected home another minutes later off a Cam York shot.

New Jersey clawed back with goals late in the second and early in the third, but Vladar closed the door the rest of the way.

Philadelphia finished its four-game road trip at 3-1-0 and is now 14-7-3 with points in 10 of its last 12 games.

They sit third in a crowded Metro and finally broke a brutal stretch in the second half of back-to-backs, improving to 2-12-2 since last season.

The offense has woken up too. After being shut out in Tampa, Philly scored 12 goals over the final three games of the trip. Zegras has been a spark, and the Flyers are now 12-2-2 when he records a point. He has 22 points in 23 games for Philly this season.
