Eagles Chargers Week 14 Injury Report: Jalen Carter OUT, Lane Johnson OUT, and a whole lot of moving parts

The Eagles are preparing for Monday Night Football against the Chargers, and the injury report reads like a warning label. Philadelphia is already riding a two game losing streak, and will walk into Week 14 without two of their best players and a whole bunch of moving parts.

Eagles Injury Report

RT Lane Johnson (Foot) – DNP

Lane Johnson did not practice and will not play Monday. There is optimism that he can return in Week 15 against the Raiders, but that does nothing for an already shaky offensive line preparing to block Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack.

iDL Jalen Carter (Shoulders) – DNP

Jalen Carter underwent a procedure on both shoulders this week, according to ESPN. He is out for the Chargers game and potentially longer. Carter has been playing through shoulder issues since training camp, and the wear finally caught up.

Carter was expected to be the anchor of the Eagles defense after an All Pro season in 2024, where he played more snaps than any interior defensive lineman in the NFL. He dominated the postseason, wrecked the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, and looked like the next great defensive force in the league.

This year has been a different story. Carter was ejected in Week 1 for spitting on Dak Prescott, his production has dipped, and the shoulder problems have lingered. He will be extension eligible this offseason, and his uneven 2025 campaign may complicate what was once assumed to be a top of market contract.

His absence puts even more pressure on Jordan Davis and a thin depth chart that has not played up to expectations.

LB Zack Baun (Hand) – Limited

Baun continues to gut through a hand injury. He has been one of the bright spots of the season, but the Eagles may have to manage his snap count.

EDGE Jaelan Phillips (Concussion) – Limited

Phillips entered concussion protocol after the Bears game, but the team believes he should be ready for Monday. He has been the Eagles most consistent edge rusher and will need to play a heavy workload with Carter out.

WR Jahan Dotson (Toe) – Limited

Dotson should be fine to play. With the offense sputtering, his availability matters.

WR Xavier Gipson (Shoulder) – Limited

Gipson’s status affects the return game more than the offense, but he has become a useful utility player.

S Marcus Epps (Shoulder) – Full

This is a meaningful development. The Eagles opened Epps’ 21 day practice window, and with Andrew Mukuba on IR, Epps suddenly becomes important. Sydney Brown struggled last week, and Epps was the preferred third safety before his injury. If he is active Monday, he could start.

OT Myles Hinton (Back) – Full

Hinton is working his way back but likely remains depth only.

Eagles Notable Players on IR

• Andrew Mukuba is out until at least Week 17.
• Johnny Wilson is done for the season.
• Ogbo Okoronkwo, Azeez Ojulari, Ben VanSumeren, Cameron Williams all unavailable.
• Willie Lampkin had his practice window expire and will not play this year.
• Myles Hinton remains designated to return.

(None of this helps a team that already looks thin defensively.)

Chargers Injury Report

QB Justin Herbert (Left Hand) – Limited

Herbert fractured his non throwing hand last week, had surgery, and returned to finish the game against the Raiders. He will play Monday, but do not ignore this. He cannot take snaps under center and is still adjusting to ball handling with only one working hand. The Chargers may lean more shotgun, more quick throws, and more RPO structure to protect him. Their backup is Trey Lance, so Herbert playing is the only option.

RB Omarion Hampton (Ankle) – Limited

Hampton was their first round pick and looked great before his injury. The Chargers opened his practice window and are optimistic he can return. If so, the Eagles linebackers will see a steady dose of him.

RT Trey Pipkins (Back) – Limited

This is a problem for Los Angeles. They are already without Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt. Pipkins being limited means the Chargers are one bad turn from starting a fourth string lineman. The Eagles defensive line should dominate, but they have to prove it.

WR Quentin Johnston (Shoulder) – Limited

Johnston has struggled, but his size still makes him a matchup issue.

RB Hassan Haskins and DL Otito Ogbonnia both practiced and could play.

Chargers Notable IR Players

• Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt are done for the season.
• Najee Harris tore his Achilles early in the year.
• Junior Colson is out for the season.
• Haskins, Hampton, and Ogbonnia all have opened practice windows.

Slater and Alt being out severely weakens the Chargers offensive line and is a structural problem that the Eagles must exploit if they want to get back in the win column.

Nothing New: Eagles enter Monday Night Football shorthanded

No Lane Johnson is predictable but still a major hit. No Jalen Carter is a much bigger issue, especially with Herbert playing through an injury that limits his mobility and ball handling.

This should be a game where the Eagles defensive line gets home early and often, but without their most disruptive interior player, that becomes harder to guarantee.

The Eagles are 8-4 and still firmly in the race for the NFC East and the top seed, but their margin for error is shrinking. Monday night is a swing game, and now they will have to win it without two of their best players.
