Eagles drop third straight, Chargers steal one in overtime, 22-19 final
The Eagles are officially in free fall. After losing 22-19 in overtime to the Chargers, Philadelphia sits at 8-5 and has now dropped three straight.
The offense continues to sputter, the turnovers keep piling up, and the same self-inflicted mistakes show up week after week.
Saquon Barkley was the one bright spot, finally cracking 100 yards for just the second time all season.
The defense played well enough to win too. Vic Fangio’s group racked up seven sacks and three takeaways and held the Chargers to 19 points in regulation.
That should have been more than enough to walk out of LA with a win. Instead the game was lost the same way the last several have been lost.
The Eagles beat themselves.
Play calling was not the issue. The offense created opportunities. The problem was the same thing that has plagued this team for a month.
Brutal turnovers from Jalen Hurts and key drops from AJ Brown that directly killed drives. Brown dropped a touchdown. He dropped another ball that turned into an interception. Hurts threw four interceptions, lost a fumble, and forced throws that did not need to be made.

His final interception in overtime came on first down. There was no need to force that ball into coverage. The cornerback made a great play, but the throw was unnecessary.
Jalen Hurts INT in OT, Eagles Lose 22-19
Hurts finished with 21 of 40 passing for 240 yards, zero touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 31.2 passer rating. He also had eight rushing yards and a lost fumble.
When your quarterback turns the ball over five times, you are not winning. Not even with a defense playing as well as this one did.
The Chargers won behind five field goals from Cameron Dicker and a gutsy showing from Justin Herbert, who played through an injured hand and a sliced up elbow. Herbert was not spectacular, but he was steady. He did not give the ball away. That alone was enough.
The Eagles are 8-5 with four games left in the regular season. Here is what remains:
- Week 15 vs. Raiders at 1 p.m.
- Week 16 at Commanders at 5 p.m.
- Week 17 at Bills at 4:25 p.m.
- Week 18 vs. Commanders, time TBD
Good News: The magic number to win the NFC East stays at three.
If the Eagles cannot beat the listless Raiders next week at home, it will be fair to question whether they should bother showing up for the final three.
The defense showed real fight. The offense once again did not. And the team that entered the year as a Super Bowl contender is now clinging to division hopes and desperately searching for answers.
So much for the positivity rabbit ending the losing streak.
