The NFC East Curse Is Dead: Eagles become the first back-to-back division winner since 2004

The curse is officially over. For the first time in more than two decades, a team has repeated as NFC East champions. The Philadelphia Eagles locked it up Saturday night with a 29–18 win over the Commanders, becoming the first back-to-back division winner since the early 2000s.

For years, the NFC East became a running joke. No repeat winners. Constant chaos. Every season felt like a reset button no one asked for. That narrative is gone now, and it’s gone because the Eagles finally broke it.

Back-to-back NFC East Champions… imagine that.

For years, the NFC East has been the punchline of the NFL.

It was the chaos division with no repeat winners and one-year wonders. Turnover every single season like clockwork. The Eagles just snapped that streak and reminded everyone that sustained success actually does exist when an organization is run correctly.

This wasn’t some fluky run either.

This is the same core that won the Super Bowl last season and followed it up by taking control of the division again in 2025.

Same quarterback. Same culture. Same standard.

While the rest of the division spent the year hyping themselves up in August and collapsing by November, the Eagles just kept stacking wins.

The context matters.

In the last 20 seasons, the Eagles and Cowboys have each won the division seven times, while Washington and the Giants have managed three apiece. Despite that, no one had been able to repeat.

Not Romo. Not Dak. Not Eli. Not anyone. Until now.

This Eagles team just ended a narrative that had become an annual joke.

Saquon Barkley’s arrival only adds to it. He spent his entire career in this division watching it eat itself alive, and now he’s part of the group that finally broke the cycle. The run game travels. Physical football and discipline travels. That’s why this team feels different.

Look at the history. The last time anyone repeated in this division was when the Eagles rattled off four straight titles from 2001 to 2004. That wasn’t an accident either. That was an era defined by stability, leadership, and expectations. Sound familiar?

The list of NFC East winners this century reads like a carousel, with the Eagles popping up again and again, but never twice in a row until now. That’s what makes this moment matter. It’s not just another banner. It’s proof that the Eagles aren’t operating on the same level as the rest of the division.

While this is absolutely something worth acknowledging, it’s also not the end goal.

The Eagles didn’t come into this season talking about division titles. They came in talking about defending a championship. This is a checkpoint, not a finish line. A box checked on the way to something bigger.

Still, let’s be honest for a second. Breaking a 20-plus year streak in a division built on chaos matters and ending the NFC East curse also matters.

The Eagles are officially the standard again. Back-to-back division champs. No debate.

Now the real work begins.
