Lions Fan Ryan Kennedy Press Conference DK Metcalf

WATCH: Lions fan Ryan Kennedy, holds press conference to correct ‘misinformation’ on incident with Steelers WR DK Metcalf

The Lions fan at the center of the DK Metcalf altercation, Ryan Kennedy, held a press conference today with his legal team to address what he says is misinformation surrounding the incident.

Yes, an actual press conference, complete with a folding table, two layers, and a backwards Lions hat. Kennedy didn’t even rock a snapback. He held the presser with a full flex-fit commitment. Wild choice, in my opinion.

Ryan Kennedy says he did not use any racial slurs or foul language toward DK Metcalf and claims he has received threats ever since allegations started circulating that he crossed that line.

According to his camp, the goal of the presser was to “address the assault, correct misinformation that has been publicly repeated as fact, and discuss the serious consequences” he’s faced since the incident.

He’s also publicly asking “DeKaylin” to take back what he said.

Here’s where things get uncomfortable but necessary.

I said it in the very first article and I’ll say it again: you cannot hit, or attempt to hit, a fan in the stands. Period. DK Metcalf was wrong. Full stop. No amount of chirping, trolling, or annoying fan behavior justifies swinging at someone during a game. That line cannot be crossed by a professional athlete, ever.

At the same time, this situation got significantly messier once the narrative shifted to DK allegedly claiming the Lions fan used racist language and insults about his mother.

That’s a nuclear accusation. If that actually happened, you would expect more acknowledgment from stadium security, nearby fans, sideline personnel, or literally anyone else in the vicinity.

Instead, more videos have surfaced, and none of them back that version of the story.

If DK truly tried to play the race card after the fact to justify losing his cool, that’s extremely messed up. That accusation carries real consequences, and once it’s out there, you don’t just get to walk it back quietly.

Does that make Lions fan Ryan Kennedy likable? Not really.

Saying “that was the goal, folks” after the altercation doesn’t exactly help his case. Acting like your mission was to rattle a player and celebrating it is clown behavior.

Dressing like you’re about to host a tailgate TED Talk doesn’t help either. You don’t have to like how he acted in the stands. I don’t. Antagonizing players is lame. It would’ve honestly been better if he just wore the blue wig and went home.

The reality is that being annoying is not a crime. Being a troll does not mean you deserve to get swung on. Once DK Metcalf crossed that line, the spotlight shifted whether people like it or not.

This whole thing is a mess. DK Metcalf shouldn’t have lost his cool. The fan shouldn’t have been trying to become the main character either and now we’re at the point where press conferences are being held over a regular-season game altercation.

Welcome to the modern NFL discourse. Nobody wins here but if we’re being honest, once punches are involved, the player is always going to be held to a higher standard, as he should be.
