Eagles survive in Buffalo, defense carries in gritty 13–12 win
Watching the Eagles on Sunday wasn’t clean or exciting and it definitely wasn’t stress-free but it was a win, and at this point in the season, that’s the only thing that matters.
The Eagles escaped Orchard Park with a 13–12 win over the Bills on Sunday, leaning almost entirely on their defense in a game that felt like it was played in a phone booth.
Philly moves to 11–5, Buffalo falls to 11–5, and somehow the Eagles walked out of Highmark Stadium after holding Josh Allen and one of the league’s best offenses to zero points for more than three quarters.
That alone tells you everything you need to know.
Defense set the tone early
Buffalo didn’t score a single point in the first half. That’s the first time the Bills have been shut out at home in the opening half since Week 6 of 2023.
Against Josh Allen. In December. In Buffalo.
The Eagles defense was physical, disciplined, and relentless. Jordan Davis described it best afterward, calling the unit “the eye of the storm.” Everything around them was chaos, but up front, they stayed calm and did their job.
The biggest moment came late in the third quarter. Buffalo drove deep into Eagles territory and looked ready to flip the game. Instead, Zack Baun stonewalled Josh Allen on fourth down, stopping him inches short of the goal line. It was the kind of play that wins playoff games.

Jalen Carter changed the game
Fresh off shoulder procedures and missing time, Carter wasted no time making his presence felt. He logged a sack, a tackle for loss, and blocked an extra point after Buffalo’s first touchdown. That blocked kick ended up being the difference in the game.
Jalen Carter’s return mattered. A lot.
Carter said afterward that it was all film study and trust in the guys next to him. Call it whatever you want. It was massive. Between Carter, Davis, Baun, and a defensive front that keeps getting stronger by the week, this group is starting to look like something you can actually trust in January.
Offense did just enough
Let’s not sugarcoat it. The offense disappeared in the second half.
Zero points. No rhythm. No kill shot. I am more than happy to blame the weather conditions. It was a nightmare out there and they did enough early to get the win. That’s all that matters.
Dallas Goedert’s first-quarter touchdown was his 11th of the season, setting a franchise record for tight ends. A.J. Brown quietly crossed the 1,000-yard mark for the fourth straight season, another franchise record, also set against Buffalo.

Surviving the chaos
Buffalo made it interesting late. Josh Allen punched in a one-yard touchdown with five seconds left, then Sean McDermott went for two and the win. The Eagles held. Allen’s pass to Khalil Shakir fell incomplete, and Philly walked out alive.
Jalen Hurts is now 2-0 against Josh Allen
Was it stressful? Absolutely. Was it ideal? Not even close.
But this was a grown-man win on the road, in bad weather, against a very good, desperate team with playoff positioning on the line.
The Eagles didn’t win this game because of their offense. They won it because their defense refused to break. Goal-line stand. Blocked extra point. Final stop to end it.
Brandon Graham called it a “battle test” and said this defense is building toward something bigger. He’s right.
If the offense ever decides to show up for a full four quarters, this team is going to be a problem. Until then, the defense is good enough to drag them there.
Survive. Advance. On to the playoffs.
