DeVonta Smith joins the 1,000-yard club, then immediately gets the hook
The Philadelphia Eagles had very little to play for in their Week 18 matchup with the Washington Commanders, but DeVonta Smith still had one clear objective.
DeVonta Smith entered the game needing 44 receiving yards to hit 1,000 for the season, and it did not take long for him to get there. He crossed the milestone late in the first quarter with a 27-yard catch, officially putting him over 1,000 yards for the season and adding another entry to the Eagles’ record books.

Moments later, his night was over. Smith was one of just two offensive starters to see the field, along with right guard Tyler Steen, and the plan was always simple. Get the milestone, then get out.
According to Smith, the conversation with Nick Sirianni could not have been more straightforward. Sirianni asked if he wanted to play, Smith said yes, and that was that.
Smith made it clear how much he appreciates the trust and relationship he has with his head coach, noting that Sirianni often wants those moments for his players just as much, if not more, than they want them themselves.
Once the job was done, the message on the sideline was even clearer. Smith laughed when asked what teammates told him after the catch, saying everyone told him to get the hell out of the game.
By finishing with three catches for 52 yards, Smith ended the season with 1,008 receiving yards, actually leading the Eagles in that category.
A.J. Brown, who did not play in the finale, finished just behind him at 1,003 yards. It marked the third time Brown and Smith have both topped 1,000 yards in the same season, making them the first wide receiver duo in franchise history to accomplish that feat multiple times.
Smith hitting the mark also completed another rare Eagles milestone. For the third time, the team finished a season with two 1,000-yard receivers and a 1,000-yard rusher. In 2025, that trio consisted of Brown, Smith, and Saquon Barkley, who powered his way to 1,140 rushing yards.
