Rat Poison: The ‘Trade AJ Brown’ Crew is already insufferable
Honestly, I know people are pissed at AJ Brown after what happened on Sunday night but I’m not one of them. I was at the game, I saw the drops and yes, they were as bad as they looked on television (if not worse) but are we really going to act like he’s a guy we have to “get rid of” now?
That seems like a dramatic, emotionally-driven reaction to something that was never really a problem in the first place.
For the entire year, AJ Brown was frustrated because he wasn’t involved in an already-broken offense. The media took that and ran with it. They literally made up story after story about how unhappy AJ Brown was in Philadelphia while mentioning him in fictional trade talks that never held any weight inside the Eagles locker room.
When that didn’t work, they targeted Jalen Hurts on the local and national level, saying that he was the problem.
The entire year was bizarre because at the end of the day, anyone with half of a brain knew exactly what the issue was. Kevin Patullo was a disaster from the start and shame on us for believing that things would be different in the playoffs.
If anyone is mentioning anyone about the Philadelphia Eagles and they don’t start with Kevin Patullo, then they are either an idiot or have their own narrative and agenda to push. That’s the reality of the situation.
One last thing before we touch on the numbers. AJ Brown exiting early was completely fine. He knew he fucked up on Sunday against the 49ers. He knows he should have caught those balls and that it likely would have changed the outcome of the game.
AJ Brown knew how bad of a loss that was, at home, to an inferior football team. He left signed jerseys for his two All-Pro cornerbacks, Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, congratulating them both. AJ Brown embraced Jalen Hurts, who did the same when speaking about him in the media. Then AJ Brown exited stage left.
Who gives a shit. Why go talk to the media who are going to ask you the dumbest, most obvious questions imaginable while trying to create drama that would begin a new narrative of drama-infused bullshit throughout the offseason?
It made no sense and I commend AJ Brown for recognizing that and getting the fuck out of dodge as quickly as possible.
Now for the numbers, which are conveniently left out of any conversation about AJ Brown and his future with the Philadelphia Eagles.
AJ Brown: The Numbers
In April 2024, AJ Brown landed a three-year, $96 million contract extension that came with $84 million guaranteed. It also came with a dead cap value of $72.5 million, which is almost impossible to move.
I suggest everyone clicks here and looks at AJ Brown’s Spotrac.

Howie Roseman is a wizard for sure but eating that much money is impossible if this football team wants to tinker the depth chart and come out the other side better than they were the season prior.
For the mathematically stupid, if the Eagles came out and cut AJ Brown, they would swallow $72.5 million. If they waited until the start of the 2026 NFL season on June 1st, they would still swallow $45.43 million for this season and another $27.2 million for 2027.
For the “trade AJ Brown” crew, you’re not going to go anywhere either. You’re looking at $43.5 million in dead cap if you trade him before June 1st and $16.4 million when the next NFL season begins after that. The dead cap number is $27.2 million in 2027.
That said, I will remind you again, any conversation about AJ Brown is beyond stupid. He’s not going anywhere, nor should he, and anyone who believes otherwise is too emotional to watch football.
AJ Brown Stats with the Eagles:
- 2022: 88 REC, 1,496 YDS, 11 TD
- 2023: 106 REC, 1,456 YDS, 7 TD
- 2024: 67 REC, 1,079 YDS, 7 TD
- 2025: 78 REC, 1,003 YDS, 7 TD
That’s 339 catches for 5,034 yards and has scored 32 touchdowns in 62 games with the Eagles over 4 years.
Again, what the fuck are we even talking about?

Trading AJ would give Dallas the NFC East title….
