Report: Eagles going big-game hunting for new OC, two former head coaches already in the mix

According to Josina Anderson, the Eagles are already knee-deep in their search for a new offensive coordinator. And two names who are reportedly going to “get a real look” are former Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski and former Cardinals head coach (and last year’s Commanders OC) Kliff Kingsbury.

At the end of the day, anyone is better than Kevin Patullo. I fully expect the team to do the same thing they did after letting Brian Johnson go: bring in a big name with real offensive pedigree to reshape this offense. And both Stefanski and Kingsbury have that.

Start with Stefanski — he might be the hottest name on the market right now. He won AP Coach of the Year twice in Cleveland (2020 and 2023) and helped the Browns win their first playoff game since 1994 when they beat the Steelers in 2020. Still, the Browns did what they always do: fuck up a good thing.

From 2020-2023, Stefanski put up the best winning percentage any Browns coach has had in a four-year span since the 80s. Then the front office shipped out Baker Mayfield, handed Deshaun Watson unlimited money, and the whole thing fell right back into irrelevancy. To me, that was a front office issue more than anything else. Stefanski feels like the scapegoat.

As for Kingsbury, he revitalized his career in 2024, helping guide Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders to the NFC Championship Game… before their front office once again fucked up a good thing. They signed a bunch of 30-something has-beens, injuries wiped out the roster, and Kingsbury resigned.

Both of these guys need a fresh start, and there isn’t a better spot to do it than Philly. The Eagles have proven that if you come here as an OC and win, you’re basically guaranteed a head coaching job. Maybe that’s not ideal for the organization long-term, but it’s one hell of a selling point.

Expect Howie and Lurie to do their due diligence, but Stefanski and Kingsbury are two names to keep a close eye on.
