Ranger Suárez is heading to the Boston Red Sox on a 5-year, $130 million contract
The Boston Red Sox reportedly agreed to a five-year, $130 million deal with starter Ranger Suárez on Wednesday. Boston just dropped a serious bag on a left-hander who has been quietly reliable for years and is a bonafied playoff riser.
This one stings. Ranger Suarez was my guy. Now he’s an enemy. So long, sweet prince.

Suárez, 30, is coming off a season in which he posted a 3.20 ERA over 157 1/3 innings with the Phillies. Since converting to a full-time starter in 2022, he has been an effective rotation piece when he is on the mound.
Over the past four seasons, he owns a 3.59 ERA across 588 1/3 innings, good for a 117 ERA+, meaning he has been 17 percent better than league average over that stretch.
The only real caveat is workload. Ranger Suárez has dealt with minor injuries in each of those seasons and has never started more than 30 games in a single regular season.
He is not a 200-inning workhorse, but he is also not a pitcher who disappears for long stretches. Since 2022, he has averaged 26 starts per year, which is solid in today’s game.
Where the “playoff riser” label is earned is October.
In his postseason career, Ranger Suárez is 4-1 with a 1.48 ERA, 44 strikeouts, and one save in 11 appearances.
Shoutout Ranger Suarez.
That is the type of profile teams pay for when they are trying to win something real, not just survive a regular season.
