Doc Rivers doubles down on ICE as Bucks look to trade generational talent and franchise cornerstone, Giannis Antetokounmpo

Doc Rivers is still talking about ICE, and at this point it’s fair to ask why he’s spending more time playing cable-news pundit than fixing a basketball team that’s been drifting for two years.

Look, I don’t exactly agree with the tactics ICE has been using in American cities. Some of the videos floating around online are beyond cringe, the effectiveness clearly isn’t where it should be, and the constant protests, interference, and chaos in the streets only make everything worse.

That part isn’t hard to acknowledge. And yeah, I never want to see anyone die, regardless of what they were or were not doing. That should go without saying. This is where Rivers loses the plot. He keeps throwing out phrases like “the training is horrible” without ever explaining what that actually means.

The obvious follow-up question, which nobody seems interested in asking, is simple: what training, specifically, are you talking about, Doc Rivers?

Once you move past the broad moral outrage and get into details, I’m not convinced that explanation would go in Doc Rivers’ favor. It’s easy to say something is broken. It’s a lot harder to explain how, especially when you’re clearly leaning on misquoted soundbites and vibes instead of facts.

Honestly, this is where the whole thing starts to feel like a distraction. If I were covering the Bucks, I’d ditch the immigration debate entirely and focus on the actual disaster happening on the court. Since Doc Rivers took over in Milwaukee, the results have been brutal.

This was a team that sat at 30-13 before he arrived. Two years later, they have zero playoff wins to show for it, constant instability, and now open noise about Giannis Antetokounmpo wanting out as fast as possible. That’s not media spin. That’s reality.

For a coach with Rivers’ résumé, that’s borderline unbelievable. You don’t get to wave away that kind of collapse by pivoting to moral lectures before tipoff. At some point, the job is still the job and the job is winning basketball games for the Milwaukee Bucks, not turning every press conference into a half-baked political monologue built on shaky premises.

If Rivers wants to have a serious, informed conversation about immigration policy, fine. Do it with facts, clarity, and accountability. Right now, it feels like he’s deflecting from the one thing he actually controls, and that’s a Bucks team that has gone backward in a hurry. At some point, the safest move might be to focus less on ICE and more on the scoreboard.
