Giannis trade update: Bucks are losing their minds, teams to watch for as the NBA trade deadline winds down
I’m starting to get really, really pissed off. The Milwaukee Bucks are expected to deactivate Giannis Antetokounmpo for the rest of the season if he’s not traded, per Brian Windhorst.
If you’re Milwaukee and you even think Giannis could be moved, why on earth would you sit him instead of maximizing your return right now? Every front office in the league is watching. Every GM knows the deadline is this afternoon. And instead of turning this into the biggest bidding war we’ve seen since the AD sweepstakes, the Bucks are out here threatening to mothball a generational player like he’s a broken printer.
The latest on Giannis trade rumors
Brian Windhorst on Giannis:
— Heat Central (@HeatCulture13) February 5, 2026
“I’ve been at 51-49 against a trade. I’m now at 60-40…. MIN is still out there but I’ll be honest with you, I don’t think MIN offer was as good as GS and if GS offer wasn’t good enough, I don’t think MIN is realistic. That leaves Miami. Miami is… pic.twitter.com/fCDP0WdupT
Here’s the part nobody in Milwaukee wants to say out loud:
If you’re bad enough to sit Giannis, then you’re bad enough to tank properly.
Trading Giannis now lets you:
- Get a king’s ransom immediately
- Control the narrative
- Start a real rebuild instead of this cowardly half-measure
Minnesota Blinked First
According to Windhorst, the Timberwolves’ aggressive pursuit of Giannis is officially dead.
Minnesota pivoted instead, landing Ayo Dosunmu from the Bulls — a solid, logical move that boosts their depth with a legit two-way guard and shooting without blowing up their core.
Warriors Tapped Out Too
And now Golden State? Same story.
Per Shams Charania, the Warriors’ pursuit of Giannis is “over.” Why? Because they’ve come to believe Milwaukee won’t trade him.
Now let me put my Sixers hat on, the one that’s already cracked from the Jared McCain trade. That one hurt. I won’t lie.

But, if you’re Daryl Morey you need to be in attack mode right now. Your franchise cornerstone Joel Embiid called you out a few days ago hoping you actually improve the team at the deadline instead of just ducking the tax. And yet, here we are.
It’s time to put your big boy pants on Daryl. If this trade deadline passes and this is all you do, that’s absolutely pathetic and total loser shit.
And the other thing is too. Shams will be wrong yet again with his reporting if Giannis survives the deadline this afternoon.
